Frostpunk 2 Resources Guide – Quick Tips for Acquiring Materials, Lowering Demand, & More

Among all the resources in Frostpunk 2, Materials are often the most scarce. This is hardly surprising, as they are essential in the production of nearly every other resource, from Food to Fuel and Goods. So, how can you quickly acquire Materials while managing their ongoing demand?

Generally, there are two main methods to gather a large amount of Materials swiftly in Frostpunk 2.

First, focus on extracting as many Materials as possible from the immediate vicinity of New London or your designated city. These collection points are represented by cube icons and can be harvested through Extraction Districts. You can increase your yield by placing Extraction Districts over multiple Material harvesting locations and expanding the District through various Buildings.

Once your District is operational, you can amplify your Materials harvest further using Emergency Shifts. This tactic boosts the output of the District where it is implemented, although it comes at the cost of increased worker injuries and fatalities.

The second method for quickly gathering Materials is to extract them from deposits located in the Frostlands. Like the other points, these are also marked by the cube icon and require a dedicated team of Frostlanders for extraction. This team will be permanently unavailable for other expeditions, but the massive resource yield from each deposit makes this sacrifice worthwhile.

Additionally, you can direct the gathered Materials to any colony you choose. This strategic approach enables you to stockpile the resource in significant amounts, preparing you for any shortages that may arise in the future.

How to Lower Materials Demand in Frostpunk 2

With a steady influx of Materials secured, you can now shift your focus toward reducing the demand for these resources. Ideally, it’s best to align resource demand with or below your current output. There are several effective methods to achieve this, outlined below.

Reduce Output from Other Districts

Each District increases the demand for specific resources, with most requiring Materials to operate. Thus, you can reduce your Materials demand by decreasing the output of other Districts in your city.

To do this, simply click on the District you want to manage. A menu will appear displaying the amount of each resource produced, as indicated by the slider at the bottom. The maximum output is set at 100 percent, with options to reduce it in 20 percent increments.

Lowering the slider’s value reduces the required Materials for that District, albeit with the trade-off of producing less Food or providing fewer shelters. Utilize this strategy as it is the quickest and most straightforward way to lower demand.

Explore Harvesting Points for Other Resources in the Frostlands

Every resource in the game has designated harvesting locations throughout the Frostlands, allowing you to collect them without needing to invest in Materials. This becomes especially beneficial in the late game when your initial stock of cubic resources begins to dwindle.

However, be aware that deploying expedition teams will deplete your available Frostlanders. Maximize your team size by optimizing your Logistics Districts and related structures.

Enhance Production Efficiency with Evolvers

The Evolvers Faction can be tricky, but they are crucial for any city looking to minimize Material consumption.

Their Community Actions, Train Workers, and Enhance Workers significantly boost the Production Efficiency of every District, leading to higher yields across all existing structures.

To benefit from this, maintain a good relationship with the Evolvers by granting them favors, such as Funding or voting choices in the Council. Favoring decisions that lead the city toward Adaptation Cornerstone also pleases them, but expect some backlash from other Factions for perceived favoritism.

Stay aligned with their city goals—choose to Embrace the Frost when possible and prioritize settling Winterhome over salvaging it as proposed by the Faithkeepers.

By doing this, you can fully utilize the Evolvers’ Community Actions to ensure your workforce extracts the maximum benefit from every Material.

Dismantle Unnecessary Districts

Although it may not be wise if you’re struggling, dismantling Districts can effectively lower your Materials demand.

To demolish a District, click the house icon with an X after selecting the District. The structure will be torn down, retrieving some of the resources spent on its construction while reducing overall Materials demand.

This strategy can be useful, but be cautious, as it could come back to haunt you during population growth. Weigh the pros and cons before acting impulsively.

Research and Establish Maintenance Hubs to Cut Materials Usage

Maintenance Hubs are among the most effective solutions for minimizing Materials utilization, as they lower the Materials demand of any located Districts within their range. Each District benefiting from this effect can return 40 Materials to your inventory, and this bonus can impact several Districts simultaneously.

It is highly advisable to construct at least one Maintenance Hub adjacent to any Districts you develop, as this can result in consistent Materials surplus.

We hope this guide assists you in rapidly acquiring Materials and minimizing demand in Frostpunk 2. For additional insights on the game, explore our guides on efficiently obtaining Goods and Heatstamps.
