The recent Squid Game event in Black Ops 6 has sparked considerable discontent among fans due to a feature that compels players to extract early in the new Zombies mode, Dead Light, Green Light.
This crossover event is now live, introducing a limited-time game mode where familiar commands of green light and red light create a unique gameplay dynamic. While matches proceed similarly to standard Zombies gameplay, the twist is that the calls for “green light”and “red light”occur at random intervals.
During the green light phase, players benefit from enhanced rewards as all essence dropped by enemies is multiplied. Conversely, when the red light signal is given, players must remain stationary or face a penalty that escalates round by round—losing more points in later rounds compared to earlier ones.
Occasionally, players will encounter a Dead Light scenario, during which all zombies are fortified with additional health, significantly heightening the challenge. Notably, all easter eggs have been disabled, and there is no rampage inducer available for added excitement.
Community Reaction: Disappointment with Squid Game Mode
Despite the potential for this mode to be an invigorating twist on the conventional round-based gameplay, it has faced backlash due to a few controversial design elements. According to ModernWarzone, players are obligated to extract by round 10. If an extraction is initiated but a player fails to escape the map successfully, it results in immediate death, ending the match prematurely.

Amidst these frustrations, players have raised concerns regarding the lack of incentives to engage with this mode, especially given that it spans only ten rounds and offers no easter eggs. “This is bullsh**; I was excited to see what this was like on high rounds,” commented one disappointed player. Another echoed the sentiment, stating, “I was in disbelief. This is the worst event in CoD history.”
While Dead Light, Green Light could have provided a fresh challenge within the Zombies experience, many feel it has devolved into a fleeting novelty with little to encourage repeat play.
As for the potential popularity of the multiplayer elements introduced during the Squid Game event, time will tell if they garner a more favorable reception.
