Fujimoto’s Look Back Anime Film Sets Global Premiere Date on Amazon Prime Video

On October 22, 2024, Amazon Prime Video took to its official X account to reveal that the Look Back anime film is set to premiere on their platform on November 7, 2024, with a November 8 release for audiences in Asian regions. The announcement was accompanied by a new visual from the film’s director.

The Look Back anime movie draws its inspiration from a one-shot manga crafted by the talented Tatsuki Fujimoto. The animation was produced by Studio Durian, making its debut in Japan on June 28, 2024. Additionally, it showcased at various international events, including the renowned Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France.

Release Date for Look Back Anime Film on Amazon Prime Video Announced

According to the recent tweet from Amazon Prime Video’s X account, Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Look Back anime film will join the streaming service on November 7, 2024. For viewers in Asia, the launch will occur on November 8 in light of timezone variations.

This anime feature had its initial release in Japan on June 28, 2024, followed by screenings in the United States from October 4-7, 2024, through GKids. It is based on the acclaimed one-shot manga of the same title, authored and illustrated by Tatsuki Fujimoto, known for works like Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch.

Studio Durian, a relatively newly established animation studio, brought the Look Back anime movie to life. Notably, voice actors Mizuki Yoshida and Yuumi Kawai made their debut in the anime scene, portraying the characters Kyoumoto and Ayumu Fujino respectively.

Taking on multiple roles, Kiyotaka Oshiyama, recognized for his character design work on Deca Dence, served as the character designer, animation director, screenwriter, storyboard artist, and key animator for the Look Back adaptation.

He was joined by notable industry talents such as art directors Takashi Oomori (noted for his background artistry in Promare) and Kiyoshi Sameshima (known for his background contributions to Shiki), alongside Kazuto Izumida, who served as the director of photography, also recognized for his role in Dandadan.

Synopsis of Look Back Anime Movie

This touching drama revolves around the life of Ayumu Fujino, a fourth grader whose 4-koma (four-panel) manga has gained immense popularity in her school newspaper. However, when her teacher requests her to share her newspaper space with Kyoumoto, a classmate who does not attend school, Ayumu’s world changes.

Unexpectedly, Kyoumoto’s 4-koma series captivates their peers, prompting Ayumu to dedicate efforts to improve her own manga skills. However, she ultimately decides to stop competing with Kyoumoto by the time they reach sixth grade. On the day of graduation, Ayumu is tasked with delivering a certificate to Kyoumoto, marking their first face-to-face meeting, which could set the stage for a touching friendship filled with unforeseen emotions.
