On the morning of September 12 (local time), BLACKPINK’s Lisa made a notable appearance at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs 2024). The youngest member of BLACKPINK received four nominations at this prestigious international music awards show and performed two solo songs, “New Woman” and “ROCKSTAR,” marking a historic moment as the first female K-pop artist to perform on the VMAs stage.

Surpassing fans’ expectations, Lisa’s over 3-minute performance electrified the audience with a stunning stage setup, a fresh beat remix, and her exceptional live vocals.

Every moment Lisa was on stage showcased her ability to captivate the audience, living up to her title as a global idol. The official MTV page even remarked, “No guitar needed, Lisa is the rock star of this year’s VMAs!”

Once backstage, the entire VMAs 2024 crew and staff from LLOUD company chanted Lisa’s name, celebrating her “roof-shattering” performance as BLACKPINK’s youngest member.

Notably, South African singer Tyla surprised Lisa by immediately congratulating her, leading to an excited hug between the two friends who had not seen each other for a while.

Tyla, a South African singer-songwriter born in 2002, debuted with her first single in 2019 and is recognized for hits such as “Girl Next Door” , “True Or Dare” , and “Water.” In 2023, she was honored as a Grammy Award winner in the Best African Music Performance category for her song “Water.”

Earlier, in March 2024, Lisa visited the studio and listened to Tyla’s album. At that time, fans speculated about a potential collaboration between the two in early 2024. Lisa also mentioned that the two female artists she wishes to collaborate with are Rosalía and Tyla.
