On August 19th, 2006, BIGBANG made their official debut at YG Family’s 10th anniversary concert. They released their first album, “Bigbang,”on August 29th of the same year and quickly gained widespread popularity with their diverse range of hit songs including ballads, dance tracks, and hip-hop.

Upon their debut, BIGBANG quickly rose to prominence and garnered numerous awards in both Korea and abroad. Within just two years, they solidified their position as a top K-pop group by winning the prestigious Daesang award. The group’s success was not limited to their musical talent, as they also gained widespread popularity through various activities, including promotions of their subunits G-Dragon X Taeyang and G-Dragon X T.O.P.

Despite their success, BIGBANG has also encountered several controversies throughout their journey. Although they initially debuted as a five-member group, only three members, G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung, remain. Both T.O.P and Seungri have since departed from the group.

T.O.P, the oldest member of the group, was accused of using marijuana while serving in the military in 2017. Following an investigation by the police, it was discovered that he had used the drug in the past. T.O.P confessed to his drug use and was subsequently sentenced to 10 months in suspended jail and 2 years of probation by the court.

Following the expiration of T.O.P’s contract with YG, he departed from BIGBANG and suggested his retirement by declaring his decision to cease working in the entertainment field. Nonetheless, he made a surprising comeback and disclosed his involvement in Season 2 of Netflix’s “Squid Game”, set to air on December 26th.

Despite being the youngest member, Seungri faced severe consequences for his involvement in the Burning Sun Scandal, resulting in his expulsion from the entertainment industry. In 2022, he was sentenced to one and a half years in prison on nine charges, including prostitution, habitual gambling, violation of the Food Sanitation Act, and embezzlement.

Despite being released from Yeoju prison in February of last year, Seungri refrained from engaging in any entertainment activities. Nevertheless, he received backlash after being seen at a club in Bali recently.
