G2 Esports Plans Changes as Two Key Players Set to Leave Post LoL Worlds 2024

G2 faced a challenging draw at the 2024 Worlds, leading to an early exit from the international competition. Despite delivering commendable performances against top-tier teams from the LCK and LPL, two players from their roster are on the verge of being replaced.

This development comes just a day after G2’s departure from Worlds 2024, with reports indicating that both Yike and Mikyx have been granted permission to seek opportunities with other teams, without any contract buyout restrictions as reported by Sheep Esports.

Although the organization had the option to enforce a buyout clause to retain the players, the decision to allow their unrestricted exploration of new opportunities suggests a relatively amicable parting. The report indicates that Yike and Mikyx are likely to be in high demand as free agents if they choose to move on.

This shift comes as a surprise given G2’s stronghold over the LEC throughout the year, where they clinched victory in all three domestic Playoffs and the Season Final. Their domestic dominance was unparalleled.

Hans sama expressed his frustration following G2’s defeat, but he remains with the team—for now.

This does highlight a significant issue, however. While G2 excelled in Europe, they were unable to advance to the Quarterfinals at Worlds. Even though they faced what many considered one of the toughest draws, the team would still need to conquer such formidable opponents to secure a victory in the tournament.

As a result, G2 is poised for roster changes. The burning question remains: who will step in to fill the roles of jungler and support?

Who’s taking over for Mikyx and Yike in G2’s League of Legends lineup?

Team Heretics coach Peter Dun suggested that SkewMond and Labrov are the likely candidates to join G2, following what appeared to be perplexing roster moves from Team BDS.

Dun expressed he is “80-90%” certain that SkewMond will be the chosen replacement for G2’s jungler, and believes Labrov would have remained with Team BDS under different circumstances.

Labrov has already made a name for himself among LEC fans as an integral part of Team BDS’s performance, but who exactly is SkewMond?

Rudy ‘SkewMond’ Semaan has been competing for several years on various amateur teams, finally making a mark with Team BDS Academy, where he had a standout year.

He quickly adapted to the emerging mage jungler meta, showcasing his skills with champions like Brand and Zyra, while also demonstrating his capability to engage aggressively when needed. His versatility as a jungler positions him as a potential rookie talent for G2, mirroring Yike’s journey.
