On March 12, 2015, the talented artist Ga-in unveiled her fourth mini-album titled Hawwah, featuring two prominent title tracks: Apple and Paradise Lost.

The track Apple embodies a playful exploration of the theme of temptation, often referred to as the allure of the “forbidden fruit.” This catchy song resonates with anyone who has felt the desire to cross boundaries that they know they shouldn’t. The renowned artist Jay Park lends his voice to the track, adding a layer of support.
Notable lines from the song express sentiments such as: “Because you say not to, I want to do it, ” “Because you say I can’t have it, I want it, ” “How about just one bite? Nothing will happen, right?” and “Let’s go somewhere nice, because when it’s just the two of us, I’ll transform.” These lyrics artfully convey the complexity of desire and temptation.

Despite its catchy beat and relatable themes, both KBS and MBC deemed the lyrics of Apple inappropriate for broadcast due to their suggestive content, interpreting the song as an implication of sexual interactions. This judgment led to the song’s initial ban from airing.
In response to the ban, Ga-in expressed her disappointment during the album’s release showcase. She acknowledged the provocative nature of the lyrics but felt that the song’s essence remained overlooked.“I thought the lyrics had a slightly risky feel, but I’m disappointed it didn’t pass the review, ” she stated, emphasizing that the desire expressed in the lines was intended to be universal rather than overtly sexual.
Following the feedback, Ga-in’s team revised the controversial lyrics and submitted a new version for review, which ultimately cleared both KBS and MBC’s scrutiny.
Regardless of the controversy surrounding its lyrics, Apple achieved remarkable success on digital platforms. Upon its release, the track quickly rose to the top of major music charts, dominating the No.1 position on various platforms and becoming a trending topic on real-time search rankings across major portals. In fact, on Melon’s overall weekly chart during the third week of March 2015, Apple secured an impressive No.2 position, underscoring its widespread appeal.

In a somewhat different chapter of her career, Ga-in faced legal troubles in 2021 when she was fined 1 million KRW for illegal propofol use. This incident led her to pause her professional activities, entering a period of self-reflection. By June of the following year, she made a notable return as a guest on KFN Radio’s Miryo’s Freestyle, where she shared updates about her life and career.
