The highly anticipated nominations highlight a notable range of AAA titles alongside impressive indie games. The nominees for Game of the Year include:

  • Astrobot
  • Balatro
  • Black Myth: Wukong
  • Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
  • Metaphor: ReFantasia

This year’s nominations exhibit a strong representation of indie brilliance, notably with Balatro making the cut in the Game of the Year category, which underscores an encouraging trend for smaller studios.

There has been some discussion around the nomination of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, with opinions divided on whether expansions should compete in the same arena as standalone games.

Astro Bot and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are leading the nominations race, each garnering seven nods. Following closely is Metaphor: ReFantazio with six nominations. PlayStation stands out this year, emerging as the publisher with the most nominations—an impressive total of 16.

Importantly, the cut-off date for nominations was early November, meaning that several major titles released later in the year, such as Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 and STALKER 2, will not be eligible for this year’s awards.

However, Asgard’s Wrath 2, having been released in 2023, has secured a place in the Best VR/AR Game category, reflecting the expanding innovation in gaming experiences.

Below is the detailed list of categories along with their respective nominees:
