In a video unveiled on the same day, executive producer Yang Hyun-suk offered an in-depth look at the nine tracks featured on the impending album DRIP, generating a lot of buzz.
BABYMONSTER made their official debut as a seven-member ensemble on April 1st. Even though they have only been active for under a year, their accomplishments on a global scale have been exceedingly remarkable.
Their initial mini-album, BABYMONS7ER, achieved extraordinary success with sales reaching 401,287 copies, marking a record for the highest first-week sales for a debut album by a K-pop girl group. Additionally, their music video for the main track “SHEESH”recently surpassed 300 million views on YouTube, while their choreography video gained over 150 million views. Their growing subscriber count, a vital indicator of an emerging fanbase, is approaching 7 million.
With rising anticipation for BABYMONSTER’s debut full album, Yang Hyun-suk conveyed his excitement, stating, “I’m truly pleased with this album.” He also shared a unique promotional strategy that has increased buzz surrounding their comeback. YG’s innovative approach, which includes releasing one-minute snippets of two album tracks each week (excluding the title track), has certainly amplified the excitement.
DRIP features nine tracks, starting with “CLIK CLAK.” Yang described it as a pioneering hip-hop piece that’s a first within the YG catalog. All seven members will showcase their rapping skills in this ambitious musical exploration.
The album’s title track, DRIP, is poised to get listeners of all ages moving, as reflected in Yang’s remarks: “It’s a song that motivates anyone to dance. Expect a vibrant performance from BABYMONSTER.” He also revealed that the iconic G-Dragon contributed to its composition, further increasing the stakes for the album.
Additional tracks on the album include the beautifully vocal-driven “Love,”infused with enchanting guitar melodies; the ‘90s hip-hop-inspired “Really Like You”; the R&B-inflected “BILLIONAIRE”reflecting a Y2K aesthetic; the cheerful “Love In My Heart”; and “Woke Up In Tokyo,”highlighting the Japanese members’ hip-hop artistry. The pre-release track “FOREVER”and a bonus remix of “BATTER UP,”which received great appreciation at their fan event, also feature on the album.
This upcoming full-length album is being backed by extensive YG support, with Yang revealing plans for at least three music videos, a notable increase from the usual one or two produced for most albums. This underlines his deep dedication and confidence in BABYMONSTER’s premier album.
Yang also addressed BABYMONSTER’s new choreography, stating, “In my 28 years with YG, I’ve been involved in the choreography of icons like BIGBANG, 2NE1, and BLACKPINK. While it isn’t inherently difficult, coordinating the choreography for all tracks simultaneously is a challenge, especially since we’re planning a world tour. However, I’m eager to deliver outstanding results,” showcasing his ambition to elevate BABYMONSTER’s international standing.
Moreover, he expressed excitement for fans to enjoy new BABYMONSTER tracks weekly leading up to the full album release on November 1st, hoping they connect with the music during this period. He also announced a pre-release of the music video for “CLIK CLAK”two to three days prior to the album launch and emphasized, “We will keep the title track under wraps until release day for a powerful debut. We urge fans from around the world to show their support.”
