The author of Jujutsu Kaisen, Gege Akutami, has recently unveiled a major “failure”in the story at the ongoing exhibition in Shibuya Hikarie.
The Jujutsu Kaisen Exhibition at Shibuya Hikarie shopping center in Tokyo presents the process of creating and perfecting the franchise’s narratives, characters, and artwork. It features original storyboards and sketches, giving insight into the final manuscript submissions, as well as a Q&A session with Gege Akutami.
Visitors can purchase a special booklet at the exhibition that contains all the information. In one of the responses, Gege Akutami reveals his biggest “failure.”
Gege says he wanted to make Culling Game as a tournament-style battleThis would have allowed him to make a Gojo Resuce arc & flesh out Tsumiki’s character moreBut he couldn’t. So Gege humbly proclaims it to be a failure on his part pic.twitter.com/rDlySf9jCU

As stated in a well-known JJK account, Gege had originally intended to create the Culling Game as a tournament-style battle. This would have provided the opportunity for a Gojo Rescue arc and further development of Tsumiki’s character. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, Gege was unable to do so and humbly considers it a failure on their part.
Tsumiki has always held the utmost significance in Megumi’s life, as she is the catalyst for his pursuit of becoming a sorcerer. Despite this, limited information about Tsumiki has hindered fans from comprehending Megumi’s motivations and decisions.
The Culling Game Arc, instead of being a tournament as originally planned, turned into a strict battle royale where participants were required to kill each other. If it had been a tournament, the arc would have been longer and Gege could have spent more time developing Tsumiki’s character and incorporating more interactions between the characters.
Despite being one of the most popular arcs in the series, the arc not only introduces new and beloved characters, but also delves into Yuta Okkotsu’s powers. However, Gege appears to be dissatisfied with it.
One fan reassures, “Despite any criticisms, the arc is still beloved by many, so Gege shouldn’t be concerned about others’ opinions. Plus, we’re reaching the end game soon anyway.”
According to another, the self reflection aspect is enjoyable, but it was the Culling Game that truly sparked their love for this series. They believe that no matter what, their love for the series could never be diminished.
Another fan expresses, “I hope the anime can slow down and allow for more character interaction. The rapid pace of the plot is the only flaw I see, as it doesn’t leave enough time for the development of other characters.”
