Gege’s role in Gojo’s return to Jujutsu Kaisen is questionable

On May 20, 2024, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 260 was released and it caused a stir among fans as it hinted at Gojo’s comeback. While many were excited about the possible return of their beloved character, others were skeptical and raised doubts about the return of the Honored One.

However, the main focus of the chapter was Aoi’s demonstration of his remastered version of the re-Boogie Woogie cursed technique. This proved to be highly effective against the King of Curses, who was unable to counter the sorcerer’s technique.

As the chapter came to a close, a shadowy figure of the most powerful sorcerer emerged, hinting at the potential return of Gojo. However, the narrator referred to this figure as a ‘specter,’ potentially implying that it was merely a silhouette that Sukuna had encountered before his demise. Furthermore, if this figure is indeed Gojo, he would not be the strongest sorcerer, as his only means of coming back would involve sacrificing his powers for his life.

This article includes the author’s opinion and may reveal potential spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series.

In chapter 260 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Sukuna was overwhelmed by Aoi’s enhanced cursed technique, the re-Boogie Woogie, thanks to the use of an instrument known as the Vibraslap. Aoi and Itadori were able to successfully injure the King of Curses and Aoi’s technique also managed to transport everyone outside of Sukuna’s domain.

Regrettably, Sukuna searched for a weak point in Itadori’s punches and attempted to strike him. However, to his dismay, a figure suddenly materialized, reciting domain expansion. Despite the figure’s identity remaining unknown, the narrator depicted them as:

“It was a vision of a man Sukuna had buried with his own hands. The departed ‘spirit’ of the strongest.”

Fans who have been keeping up with the manga since Gojo was split in half are aware that the author has been hinting at his return multiple times. However, to the disappointment of Gojo’s supporters, the Honored One’s comeback never materialized until it was hinted at in chapter 260 of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Despite numerous hints at Gojo’s return, fans should be wary of Gege Akutami’s ability to handle such a responsibility. The narrator has noted that the figure Sukuna saw in chapter 260 may be the same ‘ghost’ that killed him in the past.

When Gojo and Jogo died, they found themselves in a time-space where they exchanged their last thoughts and mourned their unfulfilled desires. Similarly, in the next chapter, Sukuna may also grieve over his own unfulfilled wishes, just as Gojo and Jogo did, when he encounters the apparition of the greatest sorcerer while facing his own death.

Despite the difficulty, it cannot be dismissed that the most powerful sorcerer may make a comeback. Therefore, even if Gojo Satoru were to reappear in the next chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, he would not be the strongest sorcerer. Sukuna’s cursed technique had split Gojo into two halves, forcing him to make a Binding Vow in order to save his life, ultimately resulting in a sacrifice.

Additionally, whatever it was that the sorcerer had to give up would have been of great value to him, as he was willing to trade his life in return for it. Therefore, it is possible that he made a Binding Vow to sacrifice his Six Eyes in order to regain his life.

If this had happened, he would have lost his cursed technique, which was the source of his strength as the most powerful sorcerer. As Six Eyes are necessary to wield Gojo’s Limitless cursed energy, his return would either be as a ghost or as a sorcerer who is no longer the strongest.
