Genshin Impact: Why This Unnecessary Feature Needs to Be Removed by 2025

A new year brings exciting changes to Genshin Impact, including fresh characters, engaging stories, new weapons, features, and vast locations to explore. However, along with these enhancements come certain elements that players believe are in dire need of revision.

Currently, Genshin Impact boasts nearly 100 unique characters, each equipped with different abilities, weapons, and fighting styles. To maximize these characters’ potential, players must focus on leveling up their Talents. However, this process often requires rare resources, like the Philosophies of Contention, which are not easily obtainable.

Overhauling Time Gating in Genshin Impact

Much like the Philosophies of Contention, many Talent Level-Up materials are subject to a time gating system, available only on specific days of the week. For instance, players can only access this important resource on Mondays, Thursdays, and Sundays. This restriction can leave players unable to upgrade their characters or weapons just when they need it most—particularly during challenging battles or quest scenarios.

This frustrating restriction detracts from the overall gaming experience. While Genshin Impact operates on a free-to-play model, offering optional paid features for additional pulls and resources, it’s essential that these monetization tactics do not hinder players who have already unlocked a character—especially when the resource is fundamentally free.

Time gating is a common mechanism in various free and paid games. Titles like Disney Dreamlight Valley impose similar limits on character acquisition, while Warframe presents challenges related to upgrade and unlock timelines. Nonetheless, many gamers argue that Genshin Impact should shed this outdated practice.

The community’s dissatisfaction is palpable, with numerous players expressing their frustration across platforms, including social media. Comments have emerged like,

“2 new characters, 2 new weapons, and because today is a Wednesday, I can’t upgrade anything. HoYoverse, this type of time gating is SO overdue to be removed after 4 years.” by u/Grimstarzz in Genshin_Impact

One player noted, “This is my #1 issue with Genshin right now,” highlighting the inconvenience of needing to meticulously plan their week around resource availability. This sentiment resonates with many others, urging developers to eliminate antiquated practices that require advance planning for upgrades. As another player bluntly put it, “Outdated c*ap like this needs to go, Hoyo.”

Interestingly, newer titles from HoYoverse, including Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero, have omitted this feature, suggesting that it is unnecessary for success. Fans point out that Genshin Impact could benefit from similar adjustments, especially since it could enhance player enjoyment by allowing immediate engagement with new characters and features.

With HoYoverse’s other games thriving without this time gating system, it seems only logical for Genshin Impact to follow suit in 2025. This shift would enable players to fully immerse themselves in the new content without the constraint of waiting for specific days.
