A sequel to Ocean’s 11 is currently in the initial stages of development. Although main stars such as George Clooney and Brad Pitt have confirmed their return, one of their key collaborators will be absent.
The Ocean’s 11 franchise is quite unique in its origins. It began as a ‘Rat Pack’ production featuring Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Sammy Davis Jr. as a group of thieves executing a daring robbery in Las Vegas.
The story was remade as a highly successful crime caper in 2001, earning over $450 million worldwide from a budget of $85 million. This led to two profitable sequels and an all-female spinoff in 2018. However, there has been little news from the Ocean front since then.
According to Deadline, plans for Ocean’s 14 are underway, with Clooney and Pitt reprising their roles as the leaders of the team, Danny Ocean and Rusty Ryan.
According to the outlet, it has been revealed that Steven Soderbergh will not be directing, which may come as a surprise since he was both the guiding force and director for the previous trilogy, receiving much praise for his work.
Additionally, discussions are underway for Edward Berger to take charge of the project. In 2022, Berger both directed and co-wrote the highly acclaimed war film All Quiet on the Western Front, and has since been sought after for various projects.
Conclave, his latest film, is expected to garner attention during awards season and recently premiered at the Telluride Film Festival, coinciding with the debut of Clooney and Pitt’s new movie Wolfs at the Venice Film Festival.
As of now, there is no official announcement on when Ocean’s 14 will begin filming. However, sources say that Warner Bros. has been actively developing the sequel and it is anticipated that the original cast, including Matt Damon and Casey Affleck, will reprise their roles.
