George RR Martin Advocates for the Return of Canceled Prime Video Series

Game of Thrones author George RR Martin has advocated for the revival of the Amazon Prime Video series My Lady Jane, which was canceled prematurely.

While Martin has been busy with The Winds of Winter and facing criticism for House of the Dragon Season 2, he made time to express his admiration for various media, including My Lady Jane.

This streaming project is inspired by the novel by Cynthia Hand and presents an alternate, fantastical narrative surrounding the life of Lady Jane Grey, a young woman who was queen of England for just nine days before her removal and execution.

Despite gathering a dedicated fanbase, including Martin, Prime Video canceled the show after just one season. In a recent blog post, he lamented, “Jane deserved more than nine days, or eight episodes.”

Martin praised My Lady Jane as a “clever and original historical fantasy” and acknowledged showrunner Meredith Glynn, with whom he collaborated on a Game of Thrones spinoff that was ultimately shelved.

He also shared a link to a Change.org petition, where fans are advocating for the show’s return.

The petition, which started on July 15, 2024, is nearing its goal of 75,000 signatures as of September 11, 2024.

Similar to Martin, a significant portion of My Lady Jane fans feel the series was unjustly treated, having been canceled just a month following its debut.

“My Lady Jane and its cast deserve more,” a fan posted on X/Twitter. “Emily and Edward’s chemistry as Jane and Guildford is insane. We need them back!!!”

Another viewer stated, “My Lady Jane has been cancelled after one season when it’s only been released in June 2024?? @PrimeVideo when we catch you. Why can’t we have anything good? The show has everything from drama, romance, fantasy, comedy, gorgeous costumes with protagonists that have insane chemistry.”

A third fan remarked, “Cancelling My Lady Jane is such a huge misstep. I can’t think of another recent show that has so quickly overcome poor marketing and inspired such loyalty and conversation among seemingly everyone who watched it. It’s truly so magical and fun. It deserves more!!”

While Prime Video may not be considering another season for My Lady Jane, the series could find a second chance on another streaming platform like Netflix or Max.
