Despite ongoing speculation that CEO Min Hee Jin played a role in GFriend’s unexpected disbandment, K-netz resurfaced the members’ heart-wrenching reactions upon learning of the news.
K-Netz Reacts to GFriend Sowon’s Response to Sudden Disbandment News
According to Dispatch, it was announced that NewJeans was set to make their debut under Source Music, the agency responsible for creating GFriend. However, due to ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin’s intervention, the up-and-coming girl group ultimately moved to the aforementioned label.
Around the same period, GFriend made the decision to not renew their contracts, resulting in an unexpected disbandment.
Reflecting on the past, online users also revisited the emotions experienced by the members upon receiving the news.
Sowon, the leader, began by stating:
“Well, my groupmates and I don’t really see it as a complete disbandment. It was true that I had a hard time organizing my mind. I always thought that I would like to become an actress someday, but it was such sudden news that I didn’t expect that the time would be now.”
“It was really a hard time for me after the disbandment, but I had to live in the future and create a new path. I couldn’t just suffer for too long. Of course, it took me a while before I was able to accept the truth. Now, about a year has passed, and all the members accepted and adopted. In fact, I think I’m the one who had the most difficulty adapting to it.”
SinB Reflects on Emotional Reaction to GFriend’s Disbandment
During a separate interview, SinB also stated:
“How are we supposed to tell the fans? We will not renew the contract. We couldn’t talk about it first. So a month before the article came out, the members were crying on V Live after seeing the videos made by fans in support of us.”
Despite telling herself not to cry on the day of the disbandment announcement, SinB couldn’t help but shed tears after reading the official article.
“I lived with Sowon and Eunha and when we read the article released that morning, we all came out of our rooms, crying. We initially thought we wouldn’t cry but we all did.
Last year was really hard for everyone although we tried so hard not to make it obvious on broadcast and to fans. I can’t imagine that I would have cried as much as I did last year. I think I did enough crying for my life just in that year alone.”
