Ghost Cat Anzu: Release Date and New Trailer Revealed

On Wednesday, May 8, 2024, the official website and X account for the Ghost Cat Anzu movie released a new promotional video and visual to announce that the anime film will debut in Japan on July 19, 2024. Additionally, the theme song and additional cast and staff members for the movie were also unveiled.

Anzu the Ghost Cat is a movie based on the popular manga series of the same name, created by the acclaimed mangaka, Takashi Imashiro. The film is being produced by Shin-Ei Animation and France’s Miyu Productions studios, and is expected to be released internationally, although a specific date has not yet been announced.

Release Date for Ghost Cat Anzu Movie: July 19, 2024

According to the latest trailer streamed on Wednesday by TOHO Animation’s Youtube channel, the Ghost Cat Anzu movie is scheduled to release in Japan on July 19, 2024. Fans have also been able to view the PV on the anime film’s website and X handle.

The most recent preview opens with Karin frantically searching for Anzu, who soon makes an appearance. The brief footage showcases humorous moments between Anzu and Karin, building excitement for the upcoming movie.

In addition to featuring never-before-seen footage, the trailer also offers a sneak peek of the theme song, Matatabi, sung by Chiaki Sato.

The singer’s remarks were also posted on the official website for the Ghost Cat Anzu movie, in which she disclosed that the theme song would evoke feelings of “summer”in everyone’s hearts.

In addition to releasing a trailer, the team behind the anime has also unveiled a new key visual created by director Yoko Kuno and art director and color artist Julien De Man. The artwork depicts Anzu and Karin enjoying a peaceful moment at a temple, with the suggestion that they may be helping to tidy up the surrounding area.

The latest update on the anime film’s casting reveals the addition of Munetaka Aoki, who will be playing the role of Tetsuya, Karin’s father. Keiichi Suzuki, known for his work with Moonriders, has also been confirmed to join the cast as Osho, the foster parent of Anzu. The announcement provides more information on the new members of the movie’s cast.

Miwako Ichikawa, a well-known voice actor, portrays the role of Karin’s father. Shingo Mizusawa provides his voice for the character of the God of Poverty. Additionally, Sawabe Wataru, who is also known as Skirt, lends his voice for a supernatural creature, Tanuki.

In addition to Mirai Moriyama (Anzu) and Noa Goto (Karin), the film will feature the talents of new voice actors. Shohei Uno and Mutsuo Yoshioka will also star in the film as voice actors.

The latest announcement for the Ghost Cat Anzu movie includes the names of newly added staff members. Yoko Kuno, the director, has been designated as the character designer. Keiichi Suzuki will be composing the music, and Toshihiko Kojima will serve as the editor. Namiko Ishidate and Yukie Nakauchi have been named as the Animation Directors.

Additional staff members have been announced, such as Yoshihiro Ikeuchi as the filming team member, Daisuke Iga as the stylist, Chika Iizuka as the CG Director, and Masato Makino as the director of photography.

Earlier reports confirmed that the movie is being jointly directed by Yoko Kuno and Nobuhiro Yamashita, while Shinji Imaoka is responsible for writing the scripts.

The upcoming Ghost Cat Anzu movie, adapted from Takashi Imashiro’s manga series, will feature a 90-minute runtime and a seamless blend of 2D digital animation and rotoscopy technique.

The movie focuses on Karin, an 11-year-old girl whose father has left her in her grandfather’s countryside home. Karin’s grandmother enlists the help of Anzu, a ghost cat, to watch over her granddaughter. As a result, the movie presents a touching relationship between a young girl and a ghost cat.
