Ghost of Tsushima Film Reportedly Casts Shogun Star, Fans Speculate Perfect Role

The upcoming Ghost of Tsushima movie has reportedly cast Shogun’s Hiroyuki Sanada as one of its stars, and fans are already speculating about who he will play.

According to the initial report from DanielRPK, the producers of the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima film adaptation are currently negotiating with Shogun actor Hiroyuki Sanada for a role in the film.

Despite no official confirmation, speculation has already begun among fans about the role that Sanada may take on in the film. Many have suggested that the highly-regarded Japanese actor would be a perfect fit for the role of Lord Shimura.

Lord Shimura, the uncle and adoptive father of protagonist Jin Sakai, and leader of Clan Sakai on Tsushima Island, is initially taken captive in the game’s beginning. As Jin embarks on his journey to save Shimura, he is forced to resort to dishonorable tactics, ultimately earning him the infamous title of The Ghost.

Despite his heroic actions in rescuing his father figure, Jin’s actions also lead to Shimura’s disapproval. Although Shimura still cares deeply for Jin, he becomes somewhat of a secondary antagonist in the game as he remains determined to reclaim Tsushima from the Mongol invaders without compromising the Samurai code.

Despite not yet revealing his role in Ghost of Tsushima, it is evident that Sanada’s demand as a Japanese actor has significantly increased. His performance on FX’s Shogun has garnered critical praise, and his recent appearances in major films such as Mortal Kombat and John Wick: Chapter 4 have only added to his growing popularity.

Chad Stahelski, the director of John Wick, has been chosen to lead the production of Ghost of Tsushima. The movie has been in the works since 2021 and may feature a cast composed entirely of Japanese actors speaking in their native language.

Although there has been no confirmation, it has been reported that various actors, such as Andrew Koji who plays the lead role in Snake Eyes, have shown interest in portraying the character of Jin, the samurai-turned-assassin. However, there have been no hints about any other potential cast members at this time.
