(G)I-DLE: From Medium Company to Digital Powerhouse

In May 2018, CUBE Entertainment introduced the 4th generation girl group (G)I-DLE, consisting of 6 members. Following their debut, netizens were quick to notice the talents of Soyeon, Soojin, and Miyeon, who had previously trained under YG alongside BLACKPINK.

Despite releasing numerous fantastic songs in their early days, (G)I-DLE struggled to keep up with fellow girl groups ITZY and aespa, both from major companies JYP and SM. This led to the belief that (G)I-DLE, despite their immense talent, remained underrated due to their status as a medium-sized company.

In 2021, (G)I-DLE encountered a major turning point in their career. After allegations of school violence, member Soojin, known as the “fan attractor,”withdrew from the group. Despite doubts from many K-pop fans, (G)I-DLE defied expectations and made a strong comeback in the summer of 2022 with their chart-topping hit, “TOMBOY.”

Ever since, the CUBE girl group has rapidly gained fame and solidified their unique position in the K-pop industry as one of the leading 4th generation girl groups, standing alongside NewJeans, IVE, aespa, and LE SSERAFIM in the TOP 5.

Earlier this year, the girl group (G)I-DLE unveiled their album “2,”which featured the lavish music video for “Super Lady”that cost 1.1 billion won to produce. What’s even more remarkable is that the five members personally covered half of the production expenses for the MV. Despite not achieving the same level of success as their previous hit singles, the group continued to captivate audiences with their trademark theme of strong, independent women.

Despite the conclusion of their promotional activities for “Super Lady” , (G)I-DLE experienced another miracle. One month later, their b-side track “Fate” unexpectedly rose on music charts and secured top positions, ultimately achieving a Perfect All-Kill (PAK). This accomplishment makes (G)I-DLE the sole 4th generation girl group to attain PAK four times in a row, from 2022 to 2024.

Based on the most recent update, (G)I-DLE’s songs “TOMBOY,””Nxde,”and “Queencard”have all achieved over 500 million unique listeners on Melon TOP100. This makes (G)I-DLE the first and only artist to reach this milestone with three songs since the introduction of the Melon TOP100 chart in August 2021. Their remarkable success on music charts has solidified (G)I-DLE’s reputation as a ‘digital monster’ group.

(G)I-DLE is considered the top 4th generation girl group in terms of digital among the TOP 5. Their continuous growth and success indicate that they will likely remain at the top for a significant period before their accomplishments are surpassed.
