In a virtual community, there was a heated discussion sparked by Jeon Soyeon’s recent solo performance and her accompanying joke. This prompted Cube to provide an explanation.
On August 3, (G)I-DLE performed their third world tour, “iDOL,”at the KSPO Dome in Songpa-gu, Seoul. The audience was filled with excitement as the group performed their popular songs, and their enthusiasm only grew when the five members each gave solo performances.
One member who received a lot of attention during the performance was Jeon Soyeon, as she showcased her solo stage with her track “Is this bad b****** number?”from her mini-album “Windy”in 2021. She made a striking appearance in a leopard-print outfit and later changed into a street fashion ensemble to complement the song.

Just like the original lyrics, she altered the song and delivered it in her unique way, incorporating simple phrases like “Don’t sing off-key, if you’re a vocalist, take the stage,”and “I’m not concerned with others’ opinions when I speak my mind about XX.”
“Additionally, she included the phrases, “My contract terminates in November,””No one can impede me,”and “Who would dare speak against me.”
The most confusing part for audiences, particularly fans of Nevies, was the mention of her contract expiration. Despite her debut being in May 2018, she still has another year to discuss renewing her contract.
Despite receiving mixed reactions, Soyeon’s performance was praised by international spectators for her cool and honest stage presence.
Conversely, Korean fans were displeased as the topic of contract expiration is a delicate matter. In many cases, a member choosing not to renew their contract resulted in the group either being restructured or, even worse, breaking up.
As a result, some are giving Soyeon a sideways glance for introducing the subject in a setting where fans of (G)I-DLE were gathered, causing Nevies to be taken aback and pondering it during the entire event.
- “I was shocked.”
- “That was all I could think about during the concert.”
Soyeon clarified that it was simply a joke and assured fans about it.
“I wrote the rap lyrics as a joke. I want to be with the members for a long time.”
Despite her statement, the situation did not calm down, leading Cube Entertainment to release an official response, stating:
- “All members are due to renew their contracts next year, and Jeon So-yeon’s claim to renew her contract in the second half of this year is just part of the lyric performance.”
Despite this statement, fans are still hoping that Soyeon will be considerate and cautious with her future “joke,”as even one misstep could potentially cause unnecessary problems.
After their performance in Seoul, (G)I-DLE will continue to connect with their international supporters by hosting “iDOL”concerts in 14 different cities worldwide, such as Hong Kong, Tokyo, Tacoma, Auckland, Anaheim, Houston, Rosemont, Belmont Park, Taipei, Bangkok, Macau, Melbourne, and Sydney.
