(G)I-DLE’s Creative Solution to Soyeon’s Absence in University Music Festival Performance

Despite (G)I-DLE member Soyeon’s absence during the group’s latest university music festival performance, the group managed to find the perfect solution to make up for her absence.

On May 30, 2024, the members of (G)I-DLE took the stage at the Hansung University Music Festival. Unfortunately, Soyeon was unable to join them due to feeling unwell. However, the other four members of the group – Shuhua, Minnie, Yuqi, and Miyeon – were warmly welcomed by the audience.

Soyeon, (G)I-DLE’s main rapper, leader, vocalist, and central figure, has a significant amount of parts. In fact, she has the most lines out of all the members in (G)I-DLE’s discography. In their most recent album, “2,”Soyeon is prominently featured with a considerable number of lines, particularly in their newest title track, “Super Lady.”

Soyeon’s responsibility is the introduction of the song, and her high-pitched vocals serve as the main attraction. As a result, her absence would certainly be noticeable if the group were to perform without her.

Nevertheless, (G)I-DLE ensured to comically fill the void.

At the beginning of “Super Lady,”the girls scan the crowd for a replacement for Soyeon. They spot a male festival-goer and invite him to try singing her parts before their performance. Despite being off-key, he impresses the members and they choose him to cover Soyeon’s parts.

Despite appearing hesitant for other parts of the song, with Minnie and Yuqi’s support and encouragement, he is able to successfully complete Soyeon’s intro!

Initially, the man was mistaken for a staff member by fans, but it is probable that they requested a student or festival-goer to fill in for Soyeon’s lines.

(G)I-DLE has previously shown their creativity in handling a missing member. In March, while Shuhua was on a health hiatus in Taiwan, the group performed “Fate”using a bear dressed in a wig and school uniform to fill in for her.

During a concert in April, (G)I-DLE utilized a backup dancer who resembled Yuqi and had blonde hair. However, to conceal her identity, the dancer covered her face with a scarf. This was done as a substitute for Yuqi, who was unable to attend the concert.
