Minnie from (G)I-DLE Opens Up About Her Struggles with Mental Health
Minnie, a member of the popular K-pop group (G)I-DLE, recently shared her personal journey with depression and panic attacks on the YouTube channel WOODY. During her candid interview, she discussed the profound impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on her mental health and her emotional struggles after live performances resumed.

Reflecting on her experiences, Minnie recounted how, after performing for long periods without an audience, the return of crowds felt overwhelming.“I was performing on stage, and suddenly, I could feel all the eyes on me. I kept thinking, ‘Why are they looking? What are they looking at?’” she expressed, revealing the mental strain of live performances.
The series of concerts on their world tour intensified her anxiety, especially whenever she noticed a camera directed at her. Minnie battled a barrage of intrusive thoughts, often feeling unworthy of being on stage.“It felt like voices were saying, ‘Get out of here, ’ ‘You shouldn’t be here, ’ and ‘This is not your place, ‘” she explained.

As the tour progressed, her distress escalated. Although she initially kept her feelings to herself, Minnie eventually shared her struggles with her manager, who urged her to seek professional help upon their return to Korea. Unfortunately, it took a week before she could meet with a doctor, during which time her negative emotions persisted.

During her consultation, the doctor inquired why she delayed seeking help. Minnie reflected on this question, admitting that she had ignored warning signs that had been apparent for some time. Ultimately, she was diagnosed with depression, a reality that is unfortunately common among many entertainers who struggle to prioritize their mental health amidst the pressures of the industry.

Throughout the interview, Minnie stressed the critical importance of mental wellness and encouraged individuals to prioritize self-care. Emphasizing her journey, she shared how essential it is to release past regrets and not fixate on unchangeable circumstances. As she became emotional, her sincerity resonated deeply with viewers.

Moreover, Minnie advocated for kindness towards oneself and being cautious with words, reminding the audience, “You never know how your words might affect someone.” Her heartfelt advice offers significant insight into the often-neglected realm of mental health in the high-pressure environment of the entertainment industry.
Following the release of this interview, fans, as well as many online commentators, praised Minnie for her courageous openness about her mental health struggles, particularly in an industry where such discussions remain relatively uncommon. Her insights not only help shed light on mental health issues but also inspire others to address their challenges.
