Gintama Anime Spinoff Announces October 2025 Release Date and New PV Details

On Thursday, October 10, 2024, the highly anticipated Gintama anime spinoff series unveiled a promotional video, indicating its premiere date set for October 2025. The video provided insights into the principal staff, voice cast, and showcased a vital visual featuring Gintoki, the original protagonist, alongside the new lead character, Ginpachi.

Unfortunately, the promotional teaser did not include actual animation but featured some work-in-progress imagery. It confirmed that the full trailer will be revealed at Jump Festa 2025, which means fans will likely have to wait until December 21, 2024, at 3:40 PM JST for further updates concerning the Gintama anime spinoff.

Returning Voice Cast and Innovations in the Gintama Anime Spinoff

As highlighted earlier, the promotional clip for the Gintama spinoff does not provide any significant glimpses into the series beyond some preliminary animation. The teaser reveals a sign for class 3-Z, which seems to be the anime’s main setting, and this is reflected in its title, 3–Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei, meaning “Class 3-Z’s Teacher Ginpachi.”

The new anime series will feature the beloved cast from the original Gintama, reprising their roles. Key returning actors include Tomokazu Sugita as Ginpachi Sakata (originally Gintoki Sakata), Daisuke Sakaguchi as Shinpachi Shimura, and Rei Kugimiya as Kagura. Other notable returning voice actors encompass:

  • Satsuki Yukino as Tae Shimura
  • Susumu Chiba as Isao Kondo
  • Kazuya Nakai as Toshiro Hijikata
  • Kenichi Suzumura as Sogo Okita
  • Tetsuharu Ohta as Sagaru Yamazaki
  • Yu Kobayashi as Ayame Sarutobi
  • Akira Ishida as Kotaro Katsura
  • Takehito Koyasu as Shinsuke Takasugi
  • Satoshi Hino as Kamui

Natsumi Higashida is set to direct the anime at BN Pictures, with Makoto Morikawa acting as the general director. Kazuyuki Fudeyasu and Mitei Mark II will handle the series composition, while Shinji Takeuchi takes the lead as the chief animation director. Additionally, the music for the anime will be composed by Audio Highs. More cast and crew announcements are expected as the series approaches its October 2025 launch.

This Gintama anime spinoff is based on the original light novel by author Tomohito Osaki and illustrator Hideaki Sorachi, which shares the same title. The light novel series, consisting of seven volumes, was published from February 2006 until its conclusion in September 2013 by Shueisha under their Jump jBooks label. A short adaptation of the concept previously aired as a concluding segment of the original anime.

Hideaki Sorachi is also renowned for the original Gintama manga, which ran from December 2003 to June 2019 across various outlets and has been compiled into a total of 77 volumes, with only 23 of those having been translated into English as of August 2011, indicating a lack of immediate plans for further translations.
