On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Tsugimanga announced the winners of their 2024 manga awards. The top spot for best web manga went to Girl Meets Rock, which received 93,743 votes, surpassing the second and third place holders RuriDragon and Vtuber Kusamura Shigemi, respectively.
So far, two volumes have been created, compiling all the chapters of the manga.
Tsugimanga 2024 Crowns Girl Meets Rock as the Best Web Manga
On Wednesday, August 28, 2024, Tsugimanga 2024 held a live stream to reveal the winners of its manga awards. The event was hosted by freelance announcer Takamichi Nakakura and voice actor Nozomi Suzuhara as the MCs.
The event was commented by Masahiro Ohno, Rikiya Kurimata, and Rico Shinoda, who respectively hold positions as the Editor-in-Chief of Manga DX+, a staff member at Tsutaya bookstore, and a member of the Da Vinci web editorial department.
Based on the live stream, Girl Meets Rock by Kuwahali and Tetsuo Ideuchi was declared the winner of the best web manga award in 2024, garnering a total of 93,743 votes.
Despite the impressive 69,931 votes received by Masaoki Shindo’s RuriDragon, the number of votes for Girl Meets Rock far surpassed it, resulting in a landslide victory for the manga in the category.
In third place are Sakamegane’s Vtuber Kusamura Shigemi and their two manga. With a total of 50,273 votes, their web manga is similar in votes to RuriDragon. However, it is still significantly lower than the first place winner, which received over 93,000 votes.
Among the top 10 best web manga, there were several other titles including Hope You’re Happy with 48,022 votes, Sachi’s Records with 39,870 votes, Kanojo ga Kuzu wo Aisuru Wake wa. with 39,271 votes, Centuria with 30,378 votes, Dokakui Daisuki! Mochizuki-san with 29,651 votes, ST✰R: Strike it Rich with 28,496 votes, and Firefly Wedding with 24,489 votes.
What is Girl Meets Rock About?
The plot of Girl Meets Rock manga centers around Chihiro Hatono, a high school student who purchases her first electric guitar with the goal of one day starting a band. Her aspirations lead her to join the light music club and create a band called La Cittadella with bassist Rin Koyama.
Regrettably, the band’s performance was not up to par, resulting in its disbandment. However, when Rin hears Hatono’s singing, she is inspired to reassemble the band, with Hatono as the lead vocalist. This leads to a chain of events where the reformed band recruits new members and puts on shows, striving to improve their skills.
