Girls’ Generation’s Yoona Faced Racial Discrimination at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival?

On May 26 (local time), various international media outlets, including the renowned Indian English newspaper, Times of India, published articles stating that Yoona had experienced discriminatory treatment based on race from a security guard at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival.

Yoona, the sole Korean ambassador for a jewelry brand, attended the 77th Cannes Film Festival on May 21. Dressed in a stunning pink gown and sporting a sleek updo, she dazzled at the event with her radiant beauty.

Despite reports of Yoona receiving rude treatment from a security guard on the day of the Cannes red carpet event, footage of the incident shows her attempting to pose for the press while climbing the stairs.

In that instant, a security guard, who happened to be female, stopped Yoona with her hand, preventing her from striking a pose. Despite being visibly surprised, Yoona maintained a calm smile and attempted to wave, but the security guard refused to allow even that.

The security guard motioned for Yoona to enter the venue hastily, causing her to enter with a disappointed expression.

The media stated that while Yoona appeared calm, she also seemed visibly uncomfortable.

The problem lies in the fact that the female security guard’s actions were not limited to just Yoona. According to the media, the security guard displayed an excessive level of control specifically towards women of color.

White women, on the other hand, faced no interference while posing on the same stairs.

Last week at the Cannes Film Festival, African-American singer Kelly Rowland also encountered discrimination, just like Dominican actress Massiel Taveras who also reportedly faced discriminatory treatment.

Videos of Kelly Rowland pushing a female security guard and protesting passionately have gone viral on social media platforms such as X (formerly known as Twitter).

Furthermore, a video captured Massiel Taveras engaging in a heated argument with a security guard as she attempted to display her dress embellished with a prominent portrait of Jesus Christ.

Massiel Taveras publicly stated on her Instagram that she had experienced racial discrimination at the Cannes Film Festival. She also mentioned that a security guard had physically pushed her and used derogatory language towards her.

As a result of these concerns, netizens are calling for the immediate termination of the security guard, citing it as a clear example of racial discrimination.
