Give me JJK Shippuden — Jujutsu Kaisen fans plea for a sequel even before the series ends

On August 19, 2024, an announcement was made that Jujutsu Kaisen would be concluding in five chapters. This sparked a request from the fandom for a potential sequel, JJK Shippuden, in order to address any unanswered questions. Despite the author’s message lacking any specific details about the upcoming chapters, the fandom is still in disbelief that the series will be ending so soon.

Additionally, this worry does not appear to be unfounded as the series contains many unanswered questions, such as the mystery surrounding the Great Merger and Sukuna’s life during the Heian Era. As a result, fans have turned to the internet to voice their concerns about the series’ conclusion.

Please be advised that this article may contain spoilers from the Jujutsu Kaisen manga series and is written from the author’s perspective.

On September 30, 2024, fans of Gege Akutami’s highly acclaimed manga series, Jujutsu Kaisen, can look forward to the release of its final chapter. The most recent installment hinted at the defeat of the King of Curses as Itadori revealed a surprise tactic to counter Sukuna’s destruction of his gauntlet.

Despite the strange visual of Sukuna’s last finger hanging on top of a clock tower at the end of chapter 266, which hinted at the potential comeback of Kugisaki Nobara, the fandom remains dissatisfied with the series concluding in five chapters. Many have voiced their desire for a JJK Shippuden sequel, similar to how the Naruto series received a Naruto Shippuden sequel after its initial conclusion.

One of the main motivations for requesting a sequel would be to resolve the unresolved mysteries of the series, such as the activation of the Great Merger, an update on the Hakari versus Uraume conflict, and the origins of Ryomen Sukuna during the Haein Era.

Responses from the fan community

The news of the manga series’ conclusion came as a surprise to most fans, as expected. Among the various complaints from fans seeking answers about certain elements in the manga, the news of the Great Merger garnered the most attention. Although this merger was supposed to happen at this time, there are currently no indications of it taking place.

Additionally, the fans were eager to learn about the developments between Hakari and Uraume during the final fight, as the author had not provided much information about their battle. Finally, one fan speculated about Nobara’s return and questioned how the author would further develop her character in only five remaining chapters.

“My brain stopped working after hearing the announcement,”a fan claimed.

“Honestly though doesn’t that kinda mean the whole merger thing won’t have time to happen,”another fan said.

“It would be the funniest shit ever if he ends the series without showing Hakari and Uraume again,”another one said.

“How’s gege going to develop nobara’s character in just 5 chapters,”another one questioned.

Similarly to My Hero Academia, where the unresolved mystery of Deku’s father remained a mystery, there is a possibility that Gege Akutami may choose to leave some important aspects unexplained in the series finale. This could potentially include the events between Uraume and Hakari. Nonetheless, it is wise to wait and observe how the author develops the plot in the upcoming chapters until the conclusion of the series.
