In online communities, there have been recent claims that Global Cyber University has ties to the religious meditation group Dahn World. Additionally, it has been alleged that BTS, who graduated from this university, is also affiliated with the group.
Founded in 2010 with approval from the Ministry of Education, Global Cyber University offers remote four-year courses in accordance with the Higher Education Act. Upon completion, students are awarded a full-time bachelor’s degree. The university operates independently from any religious institutions or organizations and does not incorporate religious facilities or classes into its curriculum.
Despite Global Cyber University’s refutation of the allegations spread by the media regarding the six BTS members who graduated from the school, some netizens remain suspicious of its connection to Dahn World. The university clarified that the members enrolled before their official debut as BTS and before they gained widespread fame.
In 2011, Global Cyber University became the first and only remote university to offer a Broadcasting and Entertainment Department, with the purpose of promoting the growth of the Korean Wave. Suga was admitted to the university in March 2013, prior to BTS’s debut. Following Suga’s suggestion, RM and J-Hope also enrolled in 2014, followed by V and Jimin in 2015, and finally, Jungkook joined in 2017.
Global Cyber University noted that due to the online format of classes, the school has attracted a diverse student body, including many working professionals and celebrities. The university also emphasized the importance of respecting the privacy and commitment of these celebrity students, who have chosen to attend the school and are dedicated to their studies and careers. Therefore, the university urged people to avoid spreading negative rumors about these students.
The school reiterated its stance, stating that it is actively gathering evidence in order to pursue legal action against individuals who share defamatory videos and posts. They emphasized that any posts that discredit the hard work and reputation of the school, its students, and alumni will not be tolerated. Additionally, they clarified that any false information about the dedication and contributions of the school staff, who have diligently served the students’ education and well-being for the past 14 years, will also not be tolerated.
On the 29th, HYBE addressed the allegations of the company’s involvement with a cult. They then released a statement on BTS’s Weverse account, declaring their intention to take legal action against individuals who spread false information, make malicious comments, and slander the artists without any leniency or mercy.
