Go Hyun-jung Makes a Heartfelt Return to Television
On November 24th, the popular South Korean variety show You Quiz on the Block, aired a teaser featuring the renowned actress Go Hyun-jung. This marked a significant moment as she made her first talk show appearance in 15 years.
A Warm Welcome from Yoo Jae-suk
Yoo Jae-suk, the show’s host, expressed his surprise and joy at Go’s arrival by addressing her as “Noona,”a term of endearment for older women in Korean. Go responded with warmth, saying, “I’m so happy that you called me Noona.” Reflecting on her long hiatus from variety shows, she reminisced about her aspirations to appear on shows like Infinite Challenge and acknowledged the lengthy gap from her last nationwide televised experience.
Emotional Moments and Family Reflections
During the show, Go Hyun-jung became visibly emotional while speaking about her family. She shared her experiences as the eldest daughter in a family, expressing deep gratitude while also conveying her heartfelt apologies to them. “I was a typical K-eldest daughter. I’m so thankful to my family, and the one I feel truly sorry about is them,”she shared, evoking empathy from the audience.
Personal Life and Artistic Journey
Go Hyun-jung was previously married to Chung Yong-jin, the chairman of Shinsegae, in 1995. The couple welcomed a son and daughter before their divorce in 2003, at which point custody of their children was awarded to Chung.
Since the separation, Go has often expressed her longing for her children publicly. Notably, during her acceptance speech for the Grand Prize at the 2009 MBC Drama Awards, she touched many hearts by stating, “I hope my children are watching.” Recently, she has also taken steps to engage more directly with her fans by launching a social media account, stepping away from her traditionally elusive public persona.
