Expressing his gratitude, Go stated, “Thank you for the 9 million views, and thanks to Lyn for allowing me to remake her song.” He also expressed his happiness about being part of the year-end lineup, leading to a joyous exchange with host Lee Young-ji. She humorously noted, “You also appeared on ‘Zico’s Artist’—your first visit had to land on our year-end special episode,”which elicited laughter from the audience.
Celebrating New Achievements
Lee Young-ji congratulated Go Kyung-pyo on his recent achievements, including the release of his official album. She teasingly remarked, “You clearly had a plan all along” while introducing his new track “Missing You.” Go shared the backstory of this song, revealing a collaboration with singer-songwriter Ju Eun, whom he met during the filming of one of her music videos. He mentioned, “That connection led Ju Eun to write this song for me,” which showcased his innovative approach to music-making.
A Personal Journey Through Music
Delving into the emotional core of “Missing You,” Go Kyung-pyo revealed that the lyrics stemmed from a deeply personal experience. He shared, “Four years ago, my mother passed away. The lyrics express my longing for her.” Having penned the lyrics himself, he infused the song with profound sentiments of loss. Notably, he emphasized a particular line—”If you call my name, say ‘I love you’” —reflecting a cherished memory of his mother’s love: “She used to tell me ‘Kyung-pyo, I love you’ at the end of every phone call. That’s the line that resonates with me the most because it’s something I can no longer hear.” This revelation left many audience members visibly moved.
Reflections on Love and Resilience
As the episode drew to a close, Go Kyung-pyo shared his thoughts on the essence of love: “To me, love is a place you return to—whether it’s family or friends. No matter the storms you face, I hope everyone can hold onto that place. Let’s return to love!” His emotional performance culminated in a poignant moment where he unveiled a photograph of his late mother, poignantly stating, “This is my mother,” which touched the hearts of many and brought tears to their eyes.
Personal Struggles and Growth
Revisiting the past, Go Kyung-pyo reflected on the challenging journey he faced after his mother’s untimely passing in 2020 during his military service. He recounted, “I enlisted while my mother was ill and struggled with depression. However, my fellow soldiers supported me and gave me strength, for which I’m truly grateful.” The loss of his mother shifted his perspective on life drastically. “She was my entire world, and when she was gone, I felt like everything ended. My father, my family and I had to start anew, forming new relationships and rebuilding everything from the ground up,” he shared, highlighting the resilience that can emerge from grief.
