God of War Ragnarok PC Port Faces Review Bombing Over PSN Account Requirement

God of War Ragnarok’s PC launch is facing review bombing online due to the mandatory requirement for players to link a PSN account in order to enjoy this single-player title.

Initially launched on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, God of War Ragnarok made its long-awaited arrival on PC nearly two years later.

The PC version was officially released on September 20, 2024, and while gamers have generally not reported significant performance problems, a critical aspect of the PC version has led to widespread dissatisfaction.

Despite receiving widespread acclaim upon its initial release, the PC adaptation has been met with underwhelming reviews and has suffered from review bombing.

Currently, the game holds a rating of six out of ten on its Steam Page, which is a stark contrast to its impressive 94% rating on Metacritic for the PlayStation version.

So, what has sparked such a strong reaction from PC players?

The primary issue at hand is that the game necessitates players to log into their PlayStation Network account to access God of War Ragnarok on PC.

Various users on Steam are voicing their frustration towards Sony for enforcing the PSN login requirement, particularly since this is marketed as an “offline experience”that shouldn’t necessitate a third-party login, especially not on the PC platform.

One Steam user remarked, “This provides no benefit to the customer and only worsens the overall experience, adding unnecessary security risks and inconveniencing users, while also limiting access for individuals in certain countries.”

Another user stated, “I loved God of War 2018, and it didn’t impose this restriction. Consumers are becoming complacent regarding companies continually diminishing the user experience for their interests, and the situation will only deteriorate.”

This isn’t the first instance in which Sony has faced backlash for requiring PC gamers to log into a PSN account. Following the announcement that Helldivers 2 would mandate players to link a PSN account with Steam to play, there was immediate and overwhelming player discontent.

The reaction was so strong that PlayStation reversed the update that required players to connect a PSN account for Helldivers 2.

While it was previously communicated that a PSN account would be required for God of War Ragnarok’s PC launch, this hasn’t mitigated the wave of negative reviews. As of now, Sony has yet to address this backlash.
