Gojo reveals Toji’s past to Megumi in Jujutsu Kaisen, and it’s underwhelming

Despite its official release date being on Monday, September 2, 2024, spoilers for Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 268 were leaked a few days prior, revealing the events that will unfold in the upcoming chapter.

Although the manga finally showed Satoru Gojo informing Megumi Fushiguro about his father Toji Fushiguro, the scene was disappointingly anti-climactic.

As fans may recall, Gojo was responsible for the death of Megumi’s father, Toji Fushiguro. However, he was unable to tell Toji in person and had to do so through a letter.

Latest Chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen: Gojo Tells Megumi About Toji

The most recent chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen showed Yuji Itadori successfully removing Ryomen Sukuna from Megumi’s body. This freed Megumi Fushiguro from Sukuna’s control, while only his remnants remained, suggesting that Sukuna’s demise was imminent.

After that, Megumi met up with Yuji and Nobara at Jujutsu Tech in the manga. During this encounter, Yuji Itadori gave Megumi and Nobara letters from Gojo, which had been given to him by Shoko Ieiri.

After his passing, Satoru Gojo was reunited with his late best friend Suguru Geto in the afterlife, a moment that fans may recall. During their reunion, Gojo disclosed that he had entrusted Shoko with informing Megumi about his father Toji Fushiguro’s demise. Gojo had been the one responsible for Toji’s death, making it important for him to personally inform Megumi after the battle. However, uncertain of his survival, he devised a plan to deliver the news after his passing.

After Gojo’s passing, Shoko gave Yuji two letters, one for Nobara and one for Megumi. The letter for Nobara Kugisaki contained information about her mother’s location, while the letter for Megumi revealed that Gojo was responsible for his father’s death.

In his letter to Megumi Fushiguro and Satoru Gojo wrote:

“Unfortunately your father isn’t around anymore- because I killed him!! Sorry!!”

After his fight with Toji, Gojo finally had the chance to meet Megumi for the first time. He felt the need to confess to Megumi that he was the one who ended his father’s life. However, Megumi showed no interest in discussing his father and stopped Gojo from revealing more.

Therefore, it appeared that Megumi had always been sensitive about discussing his father, which is why Gojo felt determined to inform him about it no matter what. Surprisingly, Megumi did not seem to have any strong emotional connection to his father, as he immediately burst into genuine laughter upon reading Gojo’s letter.

Despite the possibility that Megumi’s laughter was caused by Gojo’s apology and mention of his father’s death in the letter, the overall scene was disappointing for fans who expected it to deeply affect Megumi and bring up memories of his parents. Instead, it became a comical moment in the slice-of-life genre, leaving Yuji and Nobara in shock after reading the same letter.
