Gojo’s Heartbreaking Comeback in Jujutsu Kaisen Finale Shocks Fans

After months of anticipation, Gojo makes a return in the Jujutsu Kaisen finale – but in an entirely unexpected manner that leaves fans in sorrow.

The Jujutsu Kaisen community has been eagerly awaiting Gojo’s comeback, especially since his character met his demise in Chapter 236. Since that point, readers have generated countless theories speculating about how he could potentially resurrect.

Despite all the various theories and potential clues, Gojo makes an appearance in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 271, but he is not revived. Instead, it’s through Yuji’s flashback, during which he shares heartfelt thoughts with his mentor.

Although this isn’t the return that fans had hoped for, it carries a profound sadness. In the flashback, Gojo confides in Yuji that he has love and dreams like anyone else, expressing a desire for people to remember him, all the while recognizing that he will eventually be forgotten.

When Yuji promises he’ll never forget Gojo, the deceased sorcerer responds that it’s only for the time being, implying that even Yuji will no longer have vivid memories of him eventually. Nevertheless, the wielder of the Six Eyes encourages Yuji to forge ahead, expressing his hopes for Yuji’s future.

This poignant scene in the Jujutsu Kaisen finale is sure to bring tears to readers’ eyes. It not only offers a final glimpse of the cherished character but also provides insight into his self-perception. Gojo has perpetually struggled with feelings of isolation (except for his connection with Geto), and his dialogue with Yuji reinforces this heartbreaking reality.

Fans are understandably distraught by Gojo’s moment in Chapter 271, particularly since many had hoped for a revelation of him being alive, akin to some other ‘fallen’ characters like Nobara and Higuruma.

“Mentioning Gojo in the very last chapter after neglecting his existence only to make him voice the most gut-wrenching sentiments ever, like Gege, you really f**king hate us huh,” tweeted one user on X.

“Gege inserting Gojo in the final chapter just to make Gojo fans sad one last time is undeniably diabolical,” added another.

A third user expressed, “So Gojo ultimately served as a mere weapon to everyone, huh? No one cared about his death; he wasn’t mentioned at all. EVERYONE SHOULD GO DIE.”

Despite Gojo being seemingly forgotten by the other characters – as he is rarely referenced after the Shinjuku Showdown – he will undoubtedly remain the most beloved character in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 271 is set to officially release on September 29, 2024.
