On May 10, “WikiTree”reported that actress Y, who runs a children’s clothing store in Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu, failed to pay employee A approximately 10 million won (equivalent to 7,000 USD) in wages from 2021 to 2022.
According to A, they began working at Y, a children’s clothing shop, in 2021. However, after four months, their salary began to be delayed. By the fifth month, only half of their total salary was received. Subsequently, they did not receive two months’ worth of salary.
A stated that he was unilaterally notified of dismissal after failing to receive his wages. He also highlighted the poor working conditions, stating that he was forced to work alone without consent. Due to the nature of the work, he was unable to take regular breaks and even worked without a lunch break. Despite this, there was no further communication from his employer.
In addition, A disclosed that the year-end settlement details were not provided by the store and the four major insurances were not paid. A also stated, “I am aware that there are at least three to four other employees who have also been affected.”
Ultimately, A took legal action against Y at the Seoul Eastern District Court for violating labor standards law. In March 2023, Y was ordered to pay a fine of 2.5 million won (approximately 1,800 USD). Despite this, Y failed to compensate A for their unpaid wages and it was later discovered that A had only received a portion of their wages through the government’s emergency payment system.
“WikiTree”made an effort to reach out to Y in order to hear the actress’ perspective, but unfortunately, was unable to do so.
Contrarily, Y made her first appearance in a 2011 SBS drama and hails from a wealthy family background, known as a “golden spoon”household.
