Management Soop released a statement on their official channel on June 17th, stating that they have been using the names ‘Soop Entertainment’, ‘Soop Entertainment Co., Ltd.’, ‘Management Soop’, and ‘SOOP’ since their establishment on April 19th, 2011. They have also registered trademarks for these names. It has come to their attention that AfreecaTV has recently changed their name to ‘Soop Co., Ltd.’ and adopted ‘SOOP’ as their corporate identity (CI).
They stated that AfreecaTV’s actions were a violation of their trademark and trade name rights, and were considered acts of confusion and unfair competition under the Unfair Competition Prevention and Trade Secret Protection Act. As a result, they have taken legal action and filed an injunction at the Seoul Central District Court to halt any further infringement.
The agency emphasized, “It is important to note that any events or activities using the names ‘Soop Co., Ltd.’ or ‘SOOP’ have no affiliation with our company. We urge caution to prevent any potential harm.”
The broadcasting platform AfreecaTV has recently rebranded itself as “SOOP”.
Gong Yoo, Gong Hyo-jin, Kim Jae-wook, Seo Hyun-jin, Jeon Do-yeon, Jung Yu-mi, Nam Ji-hyun, Suzy, Nam Joo-hyuk, Kim Min-ju, Jeon Hye-jin and Lee Chun-hee are just a few of the many actors represented by Management Soop.
