The teaser centers around Gong Yoo’s character, referred to as the “Ddakji Man,” who ensnared Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) into the perilous “Squid Game” in the first season. A glimpse into the character’s morning routine reveals Gong Yoo meticulously selecting a suit and tie from a collection of identical choices before arranging his briefcase. The visual contrast of the vibrant red and blue paper “ddakji” (traditional Korean paper game pieces) against the muted backdrop is particularly striking. Observant viewers will also catch a glimpse of the iconic “Squid Game” business card alongside bundles of 50,000 and 10,000 won bills.

The scene transitions to portray Gong Yoo on his commute, eyes shut in deep thought. He arrives at the subway platform reminiscent of when he first encountered Seong Gi-hun. With a calm yet commanding presence, he addresses the audience directly, producing the paper ddakji and extending his invitation: “Sir, would you like to play a game with me?” This pivotal moment serves as a thrilling announcement of the series’ return.

“Squid Game 2” takes place three years after the events of the inaugural season, which premiered to global acclaim in 2021. The new season is set to deliver an intense clash between Seong Gi-hun, the previous winner now on a path of vengeance, and the enigmatic Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun). Viewers can anticipate escalating stakes and heightened drama as the game recommences.
