“Goodbye Earth” Director Praises Yoo Ah-in and Ahn Eun-jin’s Acting

On May 3rd, at a cafe in Bukchon-ro, Jongno-gu, Seoul, reporters interviewed director Kim Jin-min of Netflix’s original series “Goodbye Earth”and discussed various topics.

In “Goodbye Earth,”viewers are immersed in a world of chaos as the predicted apocalypse looms, with only 200 days until an asteroid collides with Earth. Director Kim Jin-min presents his signature directing style, capturing the diverse human characters within Korean society as they confront the impending end.

The inclusion of Yoo Ah-in, who is currently dealing with drug charges, in the series garnered attention. Despite originally being planned for release last year, the release was temporarily delayed due to Yoo Ah-in’s legal issues. Director Kim Jin-min explained, “As a responsible creator, it was important for us to minimize any discomfort for viewers. Although we had to make some changes to the content, we were unable to completely remove Yoo Ah-in’s character due to their role in the story.”

Despite facing various challenges before its release, director Kim Jin-min expressed relief and gratitude towards Netflix for their decision to release “Goodbye Earth” . He also acknowledged the hard work of many staff members and noted that the series was released sooner than expected.

Despite being questioned about Yoo Ah-in’s drug issue prior to the release, director Kim Jin-min carefully expressed that he viewed it as a separate matter from the drama and could only observe the situation unfold, as it was out of his control.

Despite the controversy surrounding his casting, director Kim Jin-min commended Yoo Ah-in’s talent as an actor. He revealed that Yoo Ah-in was not initially considered for the role, but he hoped to find a suitable partner for actress Ahn Eun-jin (who plays Jin Se-kyung). Yoo Ah-in’s previous collaboration with writer Jung Sung-joo caught his attention and he believed it was a good decision to cast him in the role, regardless of any controversy.

During filming, Director Kim Jin-min praised the exceptional chemistry between Yoo Ah-in and Ahn Eun-jin and thanked Yoo Ah-in for his outstanding performance and professionalism. He also commended Yoo Ah-in for his portrayal of a multifaceted character, which he could see why audiences praised his acting abilities.
