Recap of Episode 5 of Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again
The previous episode saw Ine, who had lost most of her memories, struggling to come to terms with the fact that she had been married for fifty years. As a result, she turned to Shouzou for assistance in comprehending why she had selected him as her life partner.
As time passed, Ine became increasingly intrigued by modern conveniences like the rice cooker, natto and shoyu containers, plastic wrap, and curry mix. She learned that Shouzou used to assist with the majority of household tasks, while she was in charge of cooking due to Shouzou’s lack of skill in the kitchen.
The next day, Shouzou managed to turn back the sands of time in his dream and became young once again. Unfortunately, Ine, who did not experience the same dream, was unable to regain her memories. As a result, when Yoshiaki’s family came to visit, Ine had to pretend to be normal in order to avoid causing any distress. However, when she encountered difficulties in the kitchen, Shouzou came to her aid.
When Yoshiaki later confessed that his company was struggling, Ine offered him comfort by reminding him that he was only human and should not overexert himself. She reassured him that he could always go back to his parents’ home.
After that, Shouzou and Ine visited Ine’s older sister at the hospital, who was struggling with dementia. Ine fondly recalled how her sister used to love playing the piano with her, and when she began playing, her sister joined in despite not recognizing Ine.
Despite several weeks passing, Ine’s memory remained elusive. However, one evening, when Shouzou was out and she was left alone for the first time since her memory loss, she suddenly felt anxious without him. This feeling triggered a rush of memories to flood back to her.
She reminisced about the time when she had opened up to Shouzou about her feelings at the age of 16, despite their families’ disapproval of their relationship. Shouzou had bravely stood up to his father and appealed to Ine’s relatives for their support. During her illness, he had stayed by her side and taken care of her medical expenses. Despite her worries about causing him misery, Shouzou had promised her that he would do his best to bring her more joy than sorrow.
