Recap of Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again, episode 6
The last episode showed Ine and Shouzou discussing their honeymoon plans. They were considering a sleeper train, but were surprised to find out it is no longer regularly used. They were also unaware that the Shinkansen only takes three hours from Shin-Aomori to Tokyo, making it the preferred mode of transportation. Realizing their lack of knowledge, they invited Shouta, who had previously been to Tokyo for soccer, and Mino, to join them on their trip.
Before leaving, Ine decided to stop by an old acquaintance’s shop at the market to purchase some daigaku imo. To her surprise, the shop was quite empty. However, Ine’s enjoyment of the sweet potatoes caught the attention of passersby and helped attract customers to the shop.
Shouzou and Ine reverted back to their older selves in order to take advantage of the senior discount for tickets. They went to visit their daughter Akemi, who was initially surprised to see her parents looking youthful again and was also dealing with her own health problems. However, she found solace in their company. During their visit, they also got to meet their grandson Shinji, his wife Kazuko, and their great-grandson Kousuke. Afterwards, they went on to explore Tokyo, indulging in some shopping, trying out parfait, and taking fun pictures at a purikura booth.
At Akemi’s house, Shouzou surprised Kousuke with the beigoma battle tops he had brought for him, but was met with disappointment. Shunsuke, Akemi’s younger son, clarified that children nowadays prefer playing with high-tech topblades. In response, Shouzou proposed a competition between Kousuke’s traditional top and the modern one, ultimately emerging as the victor and causing Kousuke even more distress. To make amends with his grandson, he ended up purchasing a toy for him.
While staying at her grandparents’ home, Shiori couldn’t help but feel a sense of longing for them. The overwhelming pressure of growing up, the fear of losing them, and the thought of not having anyone to turn to weighed heavily on her.
The episode concluded with Shouzou and Ine relaying to Mino and Shouta how they managed to deter a representative from Geinou Productions, who had approached them to be featured in a magazine. They had convinced the representative that they were in their eighties and were using makeup to appear youthful.
