The Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War arc brought the third and potentially strongest group of antagonists in the series—the 26 Sternritters, each wielding a distinct power. While Yhwach’s Almighty dominated the arc, Gremmy Thoumeaux, the Sternritter with the Schrift V, remained significant for his overwhelming abilities.
Despite his defeat against Kenpachi in the Thousand-Year Blood War arc, Gremmy’s fight remains a testament to Kenpachi’s strength and the potential of his innovative Visionary ability. Despite being able to manifest his imagination into reality, Gremmy’s lack of experience ultimately led to his downfall in the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War arc.

Gremmy’s Ability in Bleach, Explained
After becoming a member of the Sternritters, Gremmy Thoumeaux was given the Schrift V by Yhwach. This Schrift bestowed upon him the power of The Visionary, which enables Gremmy to turn his thoughts into actuality. With this ability, Gremmy is able to bring any of his dreams or fantasies to life.
Despite not being explicitly mentioned in the story, the true limitations of this ability were exposed when Kenpachi was able to defeat Gremmy, who proved to be incapable of using it effectively.
What are the powers of The Visionary?
Despite not needing an activation word or sign, the Visionary has the power to bring Gremmy’s fantasies to life. Many fans may assume that this ability must have some restrictions, but none have been revealed thus far. In the past, Gremmy has utilized the Visionary to transform Yachiru’s bones into cookies, effectively paralyzing her.
The creation of life is one of the most remarkable accomplishments of The Visionary. Gremmy utilized this ability to bring forth another Sternritter called Guenael Lee, who possesses distinct powers and an autonomous mind. Additionally, Gremmy can employ this power to produce duplicates of himself, thus amplifying the impact of The Visionary.
The Visionary is able to use this power in the opposite manner, instantly vanquishing individuals of captain-level with a mere thought. By controlling the reality around Gremmy, he is capable of materializing objects such as enormous meteorites. He even altered the atmosphere around Kenpachi into a vacuum during their battle in an attempt to overcome him.
Limitations of The Visionary, Explored
The abilities of the Visionary have not been explicitly limited in the story or other media surrounding the Bleach series. However, as seen in the Gremmy vs. Kenpachi battle, the user’s personal experiences can affect its effectiveness. One of the main weaknesses of this power is that if the user envisions their own death, even momentarily, it can prove fatal.
A major disadvantage is the need for the user to maintain unwavering concentration on the manifestation. Gremmy’s attention was repeatedly drawn away from his reinforced body during his battle with Kenpachi, ultimately resulting in his downfall.
The Visionary’s realities can be overpowered by a formidable adversary, as evidenced by Kenpachi’s initial strike against Gremmy. This was due to Gremmy’s failure to adequately strengthen his body and nullify Kenpachi’s attack.
