While the series was released on January 25, 2024 on Netflix, we give you a few things to know before you start binge-watching.

How many episodes does the Griselda series have?

The biopic series Griselda has been broadcast on Netflix since January 25, 2024 in France. This is a mini-series: it has “only” six episodes, each about an hour long.

All were directed by Andrés Baiz, who was already showrunner for the series Narcos alongside his collaborator Eric Newman.

“From the first days of my research for what became Narcos, [Griselda] stood out to me as a fascinating character,” Newman recounted on Tudum, Netflix’s site. “I have always sought to humanize complicated people, many of whom have been considered evil, and Griselda offered both a great challenge and an opportunity.”

Regarding the time frame, director Andrés Baiz explained to Tudum: “The Miami of the 1970s and 1980s gave us the opportunity to be really bold and have fun with the world-building. The music, the architecture, the wardrobe, the sets really inspired me to create a unique tone, which is a bit surreal, joyful, sexy, but also transgressive and unconventional.”

Griselda Plot – What is the Netflix series about?

Here’s how the broadcaster describes the series: “Griselda is a fictionalized adaptation inspired by the life of Griselda Blanco, the ambitious and skillful Colombian woman behind one of the most powerful cartels in history. In the Miami of the 70s and 80s, an unimaginable wildness and a certain charm allowed Blanco to expertly carve her path between business and family, to the point of being nicknamed ‘the godmother’.”

For his part, Eric Newman describes Griselda’s story in his own way: “Never has a woman come so close to power, wealth and respect as Griselda. And no trafficker, female or male, has ever aroused the same level of fear. Griselda is a story of rise and fall like we’ve never seen before. It’s exciting, moving, funny, scary and tragic. It is the highest level of the antihero, and a series of contradictions and conflicts with oneself.”
