Rumors suggesting that GTA 6 has been delayed to 2026 have been dismissed following the community’s mixed reactions to conflicting reports.
On September 7, a member of the Grand Theft Auto community, ‘billsyliamgta’, tweeted that Rockstar had allegedly decided to postpone the release of GTA 6 by a full year, now targeting early to mid-2026 instead of the intended Fall 2025 release.
This assertion quickly gained traction, going viral with nearly 4M views and stirring concern within the community that is eagerly waiting for more updates on GTA VI and a second trailer.
EXCLUSIVE: GTA VI has been internally delayed by Rockstar Games and they’re already decided on the early to mid 2026 release window. PC is planned for around 12 – 18 months after the console launch. This information comes from multiple devs across two studios. pic.twitter.com/VzwbDMLpe1

One frustrated fan expressed, “I’m really getting pissed off with Rockstar here man what’s the point of releasing a trailer if it’s not gonna release for another 2 years,” while another stated, “This is insane. I’m giving up all hope.”
However, some remained cautious, choosing to wait for a confirmation from Rockstar before reacting further.
Fortunately, just two days later, journalist Jason Schreier, known for breaking news about Rockstar’s plans, confirmed that there are currently no delays in place after consulting with several developers.
“The internet (and my DMs) blew up this weekend over a rumor that GTA VI is delayed. Good news is that six Rockstar employees all told me they have not heard of any delay,” he remarked.
The internet (and my DMs) blew up this weekend over a rumor that GTA VI is delayed. Good news is that six Rockstar employees all told me they have not heard of any delay. Bad news: it’s a big, ambitious game and could very well slip! Too much time left to say anything definitive

He did note, however, that a delay might still be possible given the ambitious nature of the game and the significant time remaining before the Fall 2025 release window.
This isn’t the only notable GTA 6 rumor to emerge in September. On the same day the delay rumors surfaced, musician Martyn Ware claimed that Rockstar had offered him $7,500 to include Heaven 17’s 1983 hit ‘Temptation’ in the game, which he found to be an insulting offer, especially considering that GTA 5 generated over $8B.
As the anticipation continues, fans are eager for an official gameplay reveal, and a second trailer is rumored to be released before the year ends.
