GTA 6 could be delayed until 2026 due to development delay

New reports indicate that Rockstar is still targeting a 2025 GTA 6 launch, but a delay is being considered as development is “behind schedule.”

GTA 6 currently shows a planned release in 2025, as confirmed at the end of its first trailer. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not yet specified the launch window, however.

But recently, reports have lifted the lid on the project’s home stretch, with Bloomberg reporting in February that Rockstar was requiring developers to return to the office in April.

Another report now sheds light on why the studio might be uncompromising on on-site work.

Rockstar employees, speaking on condition of anonymity to Aftermath, recently indicated that many developers are feeling blindsided by being forced to return to the office. Meanwhile, others worry that Rockstar is falling back into unhealthy overwork practices.

Kotaku spoke to sources who revealed that concerns over quality and safety are driving the move. The sources further claimed that development of GTA 6 is “behind schedule,” leading Rockstar officials to fear that they will have no choice but to postpone the long-awaited game.

For now, GTA 6 is still targeting a 2025 launch window, with management looking to release it early in the year. However, according to Kotaku’s sources, a fall 2025 launch seems much more likely.

A postponement to 2026 is however not excluded, such a possibility currently constitutes a “contingency plan” or an “emergency measure” if necessary.
