GTA 6 Insider Information Suggests Potential Delay to Counteract Leaks

A source close to the Grand Theft Auto franchise has revealed that the announcement of GTA 6 was nearly postponed as a tactic to play with the leaks and reports surrounding the game.

The anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6 has been significant among fans, particularly given the prolonged silence from Rockstar Games and Take-Two, which has left enthusiasts scouring for any trace of updates.

Currently, Rockstar has only released a single trailer. In spite of frequent calls from fans for additional screenshots and a second trailer, these have yet to materialize. Many remain hopeful for more news, especially with 2025 on the horizon—the much-anticipated release year for GTA 6.

This initial trailer was actually leaked just hours before its scheduled launch, prompting the development team to accelerate their reveal. The premiere of the trailer was first discussed in November 2023 by journalist Jason Scherier, and Rockstar eventually acknowledged the speculation.

According to insider information from TezFun, Sam Houser had considered delaying the reveal specifically to counteract these leaks.

“I remember he was thinking of pushing back the November announcement by a week just to mess with Scherier, but ultimately he was persuaded not to,” the insider shared on GTAForums.

Tez further pointed out that Rockstar’s President retains the “final say” on all matters and has been in regular touch regarding the development alongside other senior executives.

This is not the first major breach of information in recent years. We’ve seen various leaks, ranging from gameplay testing to actors’ resumes and several other elements.

In recent weeks, some fans have even attempted to sneak a peek inside different Rockstar studios.

The first attempt took place at Rockstar New England, but it merely highlighted the number of GTA Online players currently active. The second effort occurred at Rockstar North in Edinburgh, where a huge promotional poster for GTA 6 was discovered, although no additional information was revealed.
