Take-Two Interactive, the renowned video game publisher, has expressed its commitment to supporting the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, raising hopes for the potential arrival of popular titles like Borderlands and Grand Theft Auto 6 on the new console.
Scheduled for launch in 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to usher in a new era of first-party games, accompanied by strong backing from key third-party developers. During an earnings call on February 6, Take-Two’s CEO, Strauss Zelnick, discussed the company’s future plans regarding Nintendo’s next-generation console.
Take-Two’s Dedication to Nintendo’s Next Console
In the call, Zelnick emphasized the long-standing partnership between Take-Two and Nintendo, stating, “We’ve had obviously a long-standing relationship with Nintendo. We’ve supported the platform when it made sense for the individual release.” This support has historically been influenced by technical constraints and audience demographics associated with Nintendo’s devices.
He noted that while many games have previously bypassed the Nintendo Switch due to its hybrid design and limitations, the landscape has shifted.“There was a time when Nintendo platforms were really geared at younger audiences, and that reflected in our release schedule, ” he said.“Now, with the Switch and potentially the Switch 2, the console is poised to appeal to a broader demographic.”

While Zelnick refrained from confirming the inclusion of specific titles, such as GTA 6, he reiterated Take-Two’s intention to actively support the Switch 2.“As you may have noted, Civilization 7 is now on Switch. We fully expect to support Switch in the future, ” he added.
However, the significant demands of a game like Grand Theft Auto 6, designed to maximize the capabilities of platforms like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, raises questions about its feasibility on the Switch 2. Notably, even GTA 5 has yet to debut on the original Switch console despite its multiple ports and releases.
That said, the success of high-profile titles like The Witcher 3, which successfully transitioned to the Switch platform, coupled with rumors of Red Dead Redemption 2 potentially following suit, suggests that it might still be too early to dismiss the possibility of playing GTA 6 on Nintendo’s new hardware.
