Guardians Outraged as Destiny 2’s Episode Revenant Increases Power Cap Again

Bungie has announced an increase to the Destiny 2 power cap in the upcoming Revenant Episode, sparking frustration among numerous Guardians regarding the relentless grind associated with it.

In Destiny 2, grind is a central feature. Whether you’re hunting for the perfect Legendary weapon, a new exotic armor piece, or aiming for optimal stats for your preferred build, players must put in considerable effort to attain the best gear.

This includes the continual grind for power, a system that influences your Guardian’s strength relative to the enemies encountered in various activities. If your power level is below that of your enemies, expect a tough challenge; conversely, being more powerful allows you to breeze through encounters.

Typically, developers raise the power cap with each major expansion, encouraging players to level up and enhance their strength with every new drop.

However, with no significant expansion forthcoming, the developers revealed in the September 19, 2024 This Week at Bungie (TWID) that they will increase the power cap again in the upcoming Revenant episode, much to the disappointment of Guardians who are growing weary of this system.

Guardians will face additional power grinding in Episode Revenant, even if they actively participated in Echoes.

Bungie revealed plans to raise the power cap from 2000 to 2010, representing a 10-level boost. While this may not sound substantial, acquiring this additional power is solely possible through Pinnacle rewards, which are limited to weekly drops.

Many Guardians expressed their outrage at this announcement, as numerous players are fatigued by the ongoing grind.

“I worked hard to get where I’m at!! Making us start the grind over every season stinks,” a user complained.

“Totally unnecessary. Absolute joke,” another echoed.

Others who have previously quit Destiny voiced their concerns, stating that the persistent increases in power caps were key reasons for their departure, and they do not intend to return anytime soon.

“One of the reasons I quit right here. Spent more time grinding the pinnacles just trying to get a pair of boots, and getting a helmet 8 times in a f**king row, than I did doing anything else.”

Guardians in Destiny 2 are upset by yet another increase to the power cap.

A number of Guardians voiced their preference for keeping the power cap at 2000 for the remainder of the year, with increases reserved for the next major expansion.

“Bad change. Would much prefer staying at 2000 for the rest of the year until the next big thing comes out like last year. It made it easier for us to jump straight into the new seasonal/episodic content.”

Some suggested that Bungie’s decision was a tactic to artificially maintain player engagement throughout the season, especially considering Destiny 2’s current challenges following recent studio layoffs and diminished content availability.
