TikTok users are increasingly blocking their Facebook and Instagram accounts, citing concerns that these Meta-owned platforms are affecting their experience on TikTok, particularly their For You Pages (FYP).
Following a temporary ban on TikTok on January 19, many users expressed that their FYPs exhibited unusual content, sparking discussions around potential external influence on the platform.
Grace Featherston, known as @feathershere, shared her thoughts in a viral video that amassed over 5.3 million views. Upon returning to TikTok, she remarked that her feed seemed “off.” Her proposed remedy? Blocking Facebook. Featherston asserted that this simple action restored her FYP, dubbing the situation “suspicious.”
Another TikTok user, raeshorn101, recounted a similar situation. He noticed that his FYP, which used to showcase timely updates such as the California wildfires, became abnormal after TikTok’s brief outage. After trying Featherston’s suggestion to block Facebook, he reported, “My FYP is back. Everything went back to normal.”
@feathershere That’s suspicious… that’s weird #facebook
Despite some users reporting successes from this tactic, others have not seen any notable changes in their FYPs. Nevertheless, the trend of blocking Meta accounts is gaining traction among TikTok users.
Steps to Block Facebook on TikTok
If you’re interested in blocking Facebook on TikTok, the process is straightforward and mirrors the steps for blocking any other account. Follow these steps:
- Visit the Facebook profile page you wish to block.
- Tap on the three-dot menu located in the upper right corner of the profile.
- Select “Block” from the options and confirm your decision.
While some believe that blocking Facebook disrupts its influence over TikTok’s algorithm, there is currently no definitive proof to confirm this theory. At present, it remains a trial-and-error approach for users aiming to reclaim control over their FYPs.
