Guide to Adjusting FOV and Disabling Vignette in Stalker 2

Stalker 2 has emerged as a sensational success on PC, registering a peak player count exceeding 117,000 on Steam alone. While the game is also accessible via Game Pass, the dedicated team at GSC Game World clearly has a remarkable title on their hands. The PC version showcases the typical settings associated with Unreal Engine 5, presenting some options that remain unchangeable. This article will guide you on how to adjust the Field of View (FOV) beyond the in-game limit and how to disable the vignette post-processing effect in Stalker 2.

Adjusting the FOV in Stalker 2

By default, Stalker 2 offers a maximum in-game FOV of 110, which is common in many single-player shooters. If you seek an even broader perspective, you can surpass this limit with a simple modification.

  1. Ensure that Stalker 2 is not currently running.
  2. Navigate to the following directory:

C:\Users\[WINDOWS USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Stalker2\Saved\GameSettings

  1. Open the ApppliedSettings.cfg file in a text editor such as Notepad or Notepad++.
  2. Locate “FieldOfView” , and modify its value to your preferred FOV. For instance, to set it to 130, your entry should read:

FieldofView = 130.0

  1. After making changes, save the file (Ctrl + S) and exit the text editor.
  2. Restart the game, and your FOV will now reflect your new settings.

Below is a visual comparison between the default FOV of 110 and the adjusted value of 130:

Be aware that any in-game adjustments made to the FOV will revert to the maximum setting of 110 in the configuration file.

Disabling the Vignette Effect in Stalker 2

The vignette effect, a popular post-processing feature in contemporary games, enhances immersion but can detract from gameplay experience. Thankfully, this effect can be disabled with a simple configuration file adjustment.

First, ensure Stalker 2 is not running, then follow these steps:

  • For Steam users, navigate to:
  • C:\Users\[WINDOWS USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Stalker2\Saved\Config\Windows

  • For Game Pass (Xbox App) users, go to:
  • C:\Users\[WINDOWS USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Stalker2\Saved\Config\WinGDK

Next, create a text file named “Engine.ini” , ensuring its extension is set to ini rather than txt. Open this file with Notepad or Notepad++ and add the following line:

[SystemSettings]r.Tonemapper.Quality=0

  • Save your changes (Ctrl + S) and close the editor.
  • Relaunch Stalker 2, and the vignette effect should no longer appear.

See below for a visual comparison of the game with the vignette enabled versus disabled:

Stalker 2 Vignette Disabled

Note that this adjustment does not affect the vignette that appears when the player character crouches for stealth.

Additionally, players wishing to disable the forced depth of field effect can include the following line in their Engine.ini file:

r.DepthOfFieldQuality=0

If you decide to revert these effects, simply follow the previous steps and either remove the added lines from the Engine.ini file or delete the file altogether.

These modifications grant players greater control over their gaming experience, and we hope GSC Game World considers integrating these options in future updates. Furthermore, for an enhanced experience, players can also disable mouse smoothing in Stalker 2.
