Guide to Catching Applin, Flapple, and Appletun in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The apple-themed Pokémon Applin, Flapple, and Appletun have made their way back to Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Here’s a detailed guide on how to obtain these Gen 9 apple Pokémon and their evolutions.

These Pokémon originally debuted in Pokémon Sword & Shield and have returned to the Paldea region in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Each is a dual-type Grass/Dragon Pokémon, and unlike in previous games, Applin’s evolutions are accessible in both versions. Therefore, you can collect all three—Applin, Flapple, and Appletun—whether you’re playing Scarlet or Violet.

The Indigo Disk DLC introduced a new Applin evolution named Dipplin, which you can learn about in our dedicated guide. It also evolves into Hydrapple, which we discuss here. Below, you’ll find where to catch Applin and how to evolve it into Flapple or Appletun in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Alternatively, create a Great Avocado Sandwich with the following ingredients: x1 Avocado, x1 Smoked Fillet, x1 Tomato, and x1 Salt. This recipe significantly boosts Dragon-type Pokémon spawns, making it easier to find Applin in its designated areas.

Trainers can locate Applin in the following regions:

 • South Province (Area Two) – around Cortondo
 • South Province (Area Four) – near trees close to the northern river and ponds
 • East Province (Area One) – around Artazon

Should You Evolve Applin into Appletun or Flapple?

Applin presents several exciting evolution choices in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet.

Appletun focuses on HP and Special Attack, while Flapple excels in Speed and Attack. Though trainers can quickly access both evolutions, be aware that each has distinct strengths and weaknesses.

However, both Pokémon have been overshadowed by the new Applin evolution in The Indigo Disk DLC: Hydrapple. This worm dragon possesses incredible abilities, especially Supersweet Syrup, which decreases an opponent’s evasion by one stage upon entering battle (usable once per encounter).

If you decide against purchasing the DLC, Appletun is generally the superior choice. While it may lack speed, its solid defense and HP mean it can outlast opponents long enough to unleash powerful Special Attack STAB moves.
