Similar to the previous expansion, Eternity Isle, Storybook Vale introduces gamers to an enchanting new realm plagued by a mysterious corruption. It is the player’s mission to restore harmony to this land and its diverse inhabitants, including the very villains responsible for its turmoil.
Embarking on a quest to save an entire realm is no small feat, and players can expect a complex journey. Below is a comprehensive guide outlining how to navigate through the main storyline of Storybook Vale, detailing the necessary trials, character unlocks, and essential recipes to succeed.
Completing the Welcome to Storybook Vale Quest
Step 1: Initiate Your Journey to Storybook Vale
To commence the Storybook Vale adventure, access your mailbox in the Valley, and select the Storybook Vale awaits message to claim your invitation.
Next, venture into the main castle and find the Stardust Port on the second floor, situated to the left. Pass through the main doors and enter the area marked by the storybook sign, where you will encounter Merida. Proceed directly into the Library of Lore, use your magic to eliminate the Inkies, and engage with the character who is trapped.
Merida will inform you that the Lorebook summoned you, but the magical essence of the land is gradually diminishing. Interact with the Lorebook, which will expel a plethora of Snippets as its magic fades. Your task now is to catch those Snippets.
Step 2: Acquire the Royal Net
At this point, your current tools are insufficient to catch the Snippets; you will need a Royal Net. Merida advises searching beneath the Petrified Wood and offers you a potion to enhance your pickaxe.
To obtain the potion, head to the top right corner, near the stone campfire, where you’ll find Merida’s bag positioned between the campfire and a wooden log. Collect the potion (along with any food items in the vicinity) and apply it to your Pickaxe.
Now, face the rocks surrounding the nearby pillar. After mining all the rocks, interact with the pillar to spin the puzzle located in the center. Your goal is to recreate an image of Aurora. Achieve this by spinning the left pillar once and the right pillar three times, revealing the coveted Royal Net at the center.
Step 3: Capture the Snippets
With the Royal Net in hand, your next task is to capture the Snippets scattered around the Library of Lore. To catch them, you need to press the designated action button (space for PC or the equivalent console button) while aiming close to the Snippets. Accuracy is key, as they tend to be elusive.
Your objective is to collect four Snippets, primarily located in the Library’s center. Hone your aim to secure these flying treasures, and once collected, return to Merida, who will instruct you to unveil the gates for further exploration.
Step 4: Unlock the Gates
To unlock the gates, you’ll need to utilize the Royal Net skillfully. If the golden wheel is facing sideways, maintain your swing button (space on PC) and execute a sideways swipe. Conversely, if it faces downward, perform a normal swipe to proceed.
Upon entering, you’ll need to secure a total of six Snippets, divided evenly with three on each side. They might be tricky to spot, so refer to the provided image for location assistance.
Step 5: Rearranging the Lorekeeper’s Pages
Once all Snippets are captured, return to Merida who will introduce you to the task of Reordering Stories, a puzzle-based challenge you must navigate.
Select Reorder Stories to embark on the tale titled Once Upon A Time In Storybook Vale. Successfully completing this puzzle will conclude your first quest, unlocking the potential to access additional biomes.
Advancing to A New Chapter Quest
Step 1: Access The Bind
Following the completion of Welcome to Storybook Vale, meet with Merida by the Well outside the Library of Lore to initiate the A New Chapter quest.
Merida will express the challenges of reaching Maleficent and Hades due to the surrounding Ink. She will task you with clearing pathways to gain access to The Bind.
To unlock the gate, you will need to exchange 500 Story Magic. Once inside The Bind, embark on a brief exploration with Merida before returning to her.
Step 2: Eliminate the Inkies and Capture More Snippets
After your discussion, Merida will indicate the need to restore The Bind back to its former beauty. You must remove 15 Inkies within The Bind, while also capturing 5 Snippets using your Royal Net as she works on revitalizing the fountains.
Success in capturing these elusive creatures will lead you back to Merida, who will still be struggling with the fountains.
Step 3: Open Scrooge’s Store and Goofy’s Stall
As Merida tends to the issues at hand, you should greet the newly-arrived villagers from the Valley. Engage in conversations with Goofy and Scrooge, who are eager to reopen their businesses.
To facilitate this, you will need to complete the following tasks:
- Mine ten gems or minerals
- Catch three fish or seafood
Notably, mining the ten gems implies hitting a mining node with your pickaxe ten times, rather than collecting ten individual gems. However, catching three fish is essential for Goofy.
Upon successful completion, communicate with both merchants to construction their stalls and stores free of charge. Subsequently, check back in with Merida for further instructions.
Step 4: Discover Aurora’s Hidden Room
Merida will convey her inability to repair the fountain but mentions discovering a secret room beneath the bridge. Proceed to this location to find a large set of wooden doors.
Interact with the doors to secure the sparkling page seen on the floor inside. Inform Merida of this find, concluding it seems Aurora utilized this area for refuge.
Interact with the left light to open the doors and reveal a wheel mechanism. Use your net on the wheel to successfully restore the fountains.
While Merida is ecstatic about the victory, you will unfortunately realize that Aurora is not present in The Bind.

Step 1: Gain Access to The Wild Woods
One of the trials in the Storybook Vale DLC, known as The Wolf of the Wilds, can be found in The Wild Woods to the left-hand side of the main map.
Navigate to the nearest entry for the biome and unlock the gate for 2,000 Story Magic. Once through, you will be prompted to explore the Everafter area, locating yourself at the mysterious structure at the far end.
Step 2: Consult the Lorekeeper
Upon arrival at the structure, you’ll need to converse with the Lorekeeper, who will explain the significance of this trial. Completing it is essential for you to reach Maleficent and Hades to restore balance to Storybook Vale.
Merida will express her apprehension regarding the rumors of a ‘big bad wolf’ lurking about.
Step 3: Enter the Trial
Return to the area to find mysterious footprints leading to the structure. With Merida, investigate the footprints and search for the broken wheel, hidden away in a bush to the left of the structure.
Interact with the wheel and fit it back onto the structure. Then use your Royal Net with a sweeping motion to start the quest titled A Sheep in Wolf’s Clothing.
Step 4: Converse with the ‘Big Bad Wolf’
Upon entering, utilize your Royal Net to open the main room. Proceed down the long carpet to encounter a large wooden door. Engage in conversation with ‘The Wolf of the Wilds,’ whose overly charming demeanor may remind you of a familiar character.
He insists on being a wolf, but the onus falls on you to debunk his identity with compelling evidence.
Step 5: Unmask the Wolf of the Wilds
Your objective is to gather evidence disproving the following:

How to complete What Big Feet He Has
Begin by facing the door and heading right to the closed door. Spin the corresponding wheel to unlock the passage.
Navigate through the corridor to a series of symbols and Roman numerals that correspond to the symbols needed to activate the machine on the back wall.
If you wish to solve it independently, look to the left for two numbers, check behind you for one, and the other will be located on the right near the stones.
The solution is illustrated in the image below. Once correctly configured, you’ll earn Wolf Slippers as a reward.
How to complete What a Wolfish Smell He Has
This task is positioned to the right of the door, adjacent to the raised platform on the left side. Ascend the platform to utilize your Royal Net on the wheel and navigate to the cooking pot further down the corridor.
The sign nearby will depict the necessary ingredients, detailed below:
- Oil
- Woodland Pine Fragrance
- Wolf Fur
Combine these ingredients in the pot to concoct the wolf-ish musk, successfully completing this segment of the quest.
How to complete What a Fierce Howl He Has
From the main door you previously interacted with, proceed to the far right door marked with a green glowing question mark. Use your shovel to excavate the pressure plate matching the symbol above the door; this provides access.
Once inside, complete the Decoration Puzzle, which involves adjusting items from your Furniture tab.

Step 6: Unveil the Identity of the ‘Wolf’

Engaging in conversation, Flynn will confess to being cursed to protect the Trial’s secrets. Proceed to the corruption source behind him and interact with it to manifest a beanstalk leading to Maleficent’s castle.
Final steps involve placing Flynn’s house down, thereby concluding the quest.
