The First Interaction with Horse Guai (Chapter 1)
The Horse Guai hidden quest can be initiated by interacting with the creature at the Back Hills Shrine. To reach the Shrine, players must teleport to the Bamboo Grove and follow the path downwards. Once at the bottom, make a left turn and enter the cave. The Horse Guai will be waiting on the right side. Engage in conversation with it and complete the dialogue to begin the quest.
Find Horse Trouble in Sandgate Village
In the second chapter, the Horse Guai can be located in Sandgate Village. Starting from the Village Entrance Shrine, one must cross the gap via a small wooden bridge. Continue on the path to the right until reaching a group of shrine-like structures on a hill. After passing them, turn to the left and proceed until encountering an enemy with a shield in front of a building.
Traverse the enemy, circumvent the structure, and descend the incline towards the village. Keep an eye out for a prominent shrine with a column where the Horse Guai is tethered. Engage with it.
How to Interact with Horse Guai in New Thunderclap Temple (Chapter 3)
The Horse Guai can be located in chapter 3 at the New Thunderclap Temple. To get there, begin at the Temple Entrance Shrine and proceed through the temple doors. Follow the left side of the statue until you reach the back exit. Continue until you reach a set of stairs, then descend and enter the building.
Upon entering, make your way to the right and take the stairs to exit the area. Afterwards, turn left and continue along the path until you reach a set of wooden pillars. The fifth pillar is where you will find the Horse Guai. Engage in conversation with him until his dialogue concludes.
Chapter 4: IV. Free Horse Guai from the Cocoon in Webbed Hollow
Make your way to the Middle Hollow Shrine and continue along the path until you come across a torch on your left. Descend using the platforms to reach the open area where you will face the Centipede Guai boss. Defeat the boss, acquire its Spirit, and proceed to the back of the area to continue your journey.
As you descend the slope, make a left turn to reach the bottom where you will come across a yellow cocoon. Attack the cocoon to release the Horse Guai. Following a short cutscene, talk to the NPC and go through all of his dialogue.
Defeat Keeper of the Flaming Mountains (Chapter 5)
Begin your journey from the Valley Entrance Shrine and continue down the path until you reach a magma area, marked by two towering pillars. Keep moving until you encounter the formidable Misty Cloud, the boss of the Cloudy Mist realm. Defeat this opponent and ascend the stairs to face the next challenge, the Keeper of Flaming Mountains boss.
Note: Make sure to free Horse Guai from his cocoon before defeating this boss, or else you might fail the quest.
VI. Final Meeting with the Horse Guai and Obtaining Dark Thunder Transformation (Chapter 5)
Upon successfully defeating the Keeper of Flaming Mountains, make your way out of the Valley Entrance Keeper’s Shrine and turn left. Continue down the path until you reach the magma area. Take a right and you will come across a statue, where you will bid farewell to the Horse Guai for the last time.
Upon completing the interaction, it is necessary to defeat him in order to complete the questline. Once you have triumphed over him, examine the statue to find a whip hanging from it. Interact with the whip and select the option to “Pull Forcefully”. This will enable you to acquire the whip and automatically unlock the Dark Thunder Transformation.
