In Lightyear Frontier, you’ll encounter some friendly galactic neighbors like Ulf and Diane. To conduct trade and engage in their questlines, you’ll need a space for them to land. If you’re looking for guidance, here’s a comprehensive tutorial on constructing the Outpost in Lightyear Frontier.
How to Build an Outpost in Lightyear Frontier
To construct an Outpost (also known as a Lunar Lander) for Ulf and Diane in Lightyear Frontier, you must first establish contact with Ulf and/or Diane to kick off their quests. Once you achieve this, the blueprint for the Outpost landing pad will be available in your Build Menu.
To build an Outpost, gather the following construction materials:
- 4 x Aluminum Frames
- Crafted using an Assembler with Aluminum Rods (located in the Pine Heights area).
- 2 x Aluminum Electronics
- Produced via an Assembler using Aluminum Rods (from Pine Heights) and Copper Wire (crafted from Copper Ore found in the Edge Cliffs area).
Ensure you have ample space free of obstacles (like bushes and rocks) when constructing your Outpost. After building it, you’ll be prompted to assign Ulf or Diane to the facility. You can do this (whether in or out of your mech) by interacting with the keypad tower on the platform and selecting either Ulf or Diane from the menu.
Upon assignment, your chosen neighbor’s ship will land on the Outpost platform. Once they exit the ship with a yellow icon above them, you can initiate dialogue and begin their respective questlines.
Keep in mind that to host both Ulf and Diane at your farm, you’ll need to establish two Outposts—one for each character. This means you’ll require a total of 8 x Aluminum Frames and 4 x Aluminum Electronics for both Outposts.
How to Unlock Ulf and Diane’s Questlines in Lightyear Frontier
Whether starting a new save or continuing from a previous one, a few unspoken objectives must be completed before you can initiate contact with Ulf and Diane.
To receive contact from Ulf, you must gather at least one node of Copper Ore, which can be found abundantly in the Edge Cliffs. The following day, Ulf should reach out about a new business opportunity.
If Ulf does not contact you, consider restarting the game and your save file. Additionally, if you have disabled ‘Speech’ in Settings, this may inadvertently block Ulf’s or Diane’s introduction. We suggest re-enabling it and/or restarting your game afterward.
As for Diane, explore any fully restored areas of the map, excluding the Meadows, Pine Heights, and Edge Cliffs. Look for a glowing egg on the ground to place in your inventory. After doing so, Diane will contact you about the egg and request to visit your farm for an inspection.
Once you have Outposts set up for both characters, remember that, similar to Lola the Merchant, they will leave in the evening and won’t be available for interaction until the following morning.
